Surgery date!! Time to prepare!
I invested in a small refrigerator (like the ones for college students) and a microwave in my bedroom - that way I did not have to walk far post-op, and I could feed my little ones too.... without going downstairs or walking too far. Keep favorite drinks (like water or green tea) handy and easily microwaveable meals (oatmeal, microwave dinners) close at home.
Get one of those cheapie plastic patio chairs - use for showers - you can sit - they are easy to use until you are totally stable in the shower - much easier to get out of - vents to allow water to drain and great support!
Stock up on liquids and things you like to eat.... My best recommendation for broth..... go to your local Chinese restaurant and strain broth from Wor Won Ton Soup.... family will love having all the stuff in the soup, but you wont skimp on flavor! Packages of Mashed potatoes is a great introduction to solid foods that is easy to prepare... and can come in reasonable quantities.
The goal is to have nutrition with maximum fun. My surgery - Nov 2004 - Haven't had a full protein shake before or after surgery - can't stand the taste. If I can only have 2-3 tablespoons - I da** well want it to taste good! Just sayin.....

(Also, when in hospital, get out of bed and walk the soonest that your physician allows.... don't allow yourself to stay in bed - get out there and walk! fastest way to recover and prevent complications - take pain meds rather than keeping quiet to prevent pain!
Hope this helps

Congrats on your date, my date is 4/1, trust me the time does go by faster then you would think. I went to GNC and got a few bottled of high protein fruit flavored drinks as I am not sure how I am going to deal with the chocolate and vanilla ones. I know 2 weeks before I will be on a protien diet to shrink my liver. I am hoping to try the unflavored protein powder before surgery since I would rather add that to what I like to drink/eat then have to drink something I don't like.
Great idea about the chair for the shower. My date is March 19th. I am doing a revision to the Ds from the RNY. I am thinking of renting an electric recliner that goes up and down because I have a feeling I will be sleeping in it for several weeks. My sofa reclines in case that doesn't work out. Since I am having a revision I am already familiar with a lot of protein drinks. JUsu trying to make sure my vitamins are all lined up so I can start when given the green light. Good luck to you both!

Try if you cannot wait, but do NOT buy anything in large amounts until after you've tried it again as a post op. Our sense of taste can change that much as a post op.
I cleaned my house from top to bottom so I would be comfortable doing absolutely nothing for a few weeks. I made sure simple things for foods and fluids were plentiful in the pantry.
In the hospital, I had a huge bag of what I called necessities. All I pulled from it was a hairbrush and chapstick. The hospital gave me everything else I needed, and I was too tired to bother digging into my bag for my own brand preferences.

Hi,
I liked EAS also but most of it is a concentrated protein which we as DSers shouldnt use (according to my NUT). I buy a whey isolate and I will tell you I didn't find any brand at Sam's in that that I could tolerate. I have a big bag of Muscletech whey isolate that is horrid but I use a little with the other kind I buy on line to try to use it up. I do like the Nectars and they Optimum nutrition brands.
Best of luck with your surgery it will be here before you know it!
