Was anyone on antidepressants before the surgery and what was your experience with dosage adjustments after?

good question. I have been meaning to ask this.  What about acid reducers, pain relievers etc.

I've been wondering about pain relievers and cold medicines also.

Pre D.S. had Synthroid for hypothyroid- no change in amount needed post D.S.

Prilosec - acid reducer- same before and after.

Pain meds, post D.S. needed for plastic surgery recovery was normal dosage, same for my pre D.S. hysterectomy.

Antidepressant- began taking post D.S. needed it before D.S. can't say the D.S. is requiring more, I seem to need more than most people for a normal baseline. The XR's did not work as well for Wellbutrin, and Adderal. Tabs spread throughout the day work fine. I had surgical menopause, and cancer, cured now. 4 major surgeries in 2 years, with 3 more in the future. Family issues added in all brought me to a point of requiring wellbutrin. My depression is in remission now with Wellbutrin. Adderal is for ADD. Wellbutrin helps the Adderal. It's a good combination for me.

Vitamins and supplements- post D.S.- Dry vits  capsules and tablets work well. My labs are in good shape.

I am on Cymbalta for fibromyalgia, but it is an antidepressant, too.  No dosage adjustment necessary.  None of my meds, including Nexium ,which I didn't take until I was a post-op needed to be adjusted.

Anecdotally, a review of these boards seems to reveal quite a few DSers who use antidepressants and who have had worsening depression post DS.  There are numerous posts/threads regarding antidepressant doseage adjustements.  Many times it is suggested that worsening depression is a hormonal reaction to rapid weight loss, or that the estrogen in the fat cells are "dumping" into your body as you lose weight.  Those ideas appear to be unsubstantiated.

Have recently been reading about how essential fatty acids deficiency can contribute to depression - which makes sense at first glance because DSers mal-absorb fat and if we do not supplement for specific fats it seems logical we could be deficient in the essential fats.

Just throwing that out there for consideration because they probably aren't called ESSENTIAL just for the fun of it.
