Hi everyone, I know I haven't posted in forever, even tho i do lurke. I have a ? I am currently 15weeks pregnant, and my ob had me do the 1 hour glucose test for gestational diabetes, doing it early only because before surgery I had diabetes, well the first test came back high, and now they want to do the 3 hour test, when I did the first one my heart felt like it was going to pump out of my chest, and i did get some what tired, not where i could lay down and just sleep but i was yawning.. what is your opinion on this testing with us dsers? I hear that we shouldn't take it, and I hear we get false results, any feedback would be great.

Thank's again Tammy

Tammy,

Please note that I was not a DS'er when I had this test done. I also had to do the 3 hours test....I literally fell asleep in the chair. I did have Gestational Diabetes and it cleared itself once I gave birth. Didn't know that we shouldn't take it once we are a DS'er  :/ Prayers to you and congrats on your little one;))))))

Having a DS is not a contraindications for the testing. (I work on high risk OB). What you experienced is pretty typical with the glucose load. If you pass your 3 hr GTT you'll need another one around 24 wks. Good luck and congratulations,

I don't understand. Why would they test her if her current tests don't indicate diabetes? They tested her because she used to have diabetes pre-DS.

The early screening is done based on risk factors. The later screening is done routinely at 24-28 weeks looking for basically a chemical diabetes related to the placental hormone HPL. Even though her diabetes resolved prior to pregnancy, the effects of the hormones may result in gestational diabetes.
