So my sleep study, stress test and psych eval were set up through my surgeons office or recommended I go to by my surgeons office. The bills came in and I was looking at them on my insurance website.
$7,875.00 for a sleep study ???????????????????
$9,979.00 for a stress test. ??????????????????
$1000.00 for a psych eval ??????????????????
Every time I asked how much something was I was given the run around and they would say don't worry about it your insurance will cover it and you will just have to pay the deductible. I never gave it another thought. I had looked up the normal price online before I went so I believed I had an idea on how much it was going to be for each procedure. This is madness! I hope my insurance is going to pay for this crap because if they start to charge me I am going to have a heart attack and no surgery will be needed.
Anyone else have crazy fees like this?
Yep.

My former insurance company recently sent me the statement of what they paid for my surgey etc... all told it was approx. 1/4 million due to my complications and intensive care stay etc.... Blew my mind but at least I didn't have to pay it, actually didn't have to really pay anything towards that. Sure am gonna miss that insurance.

Wow! I cannot believe this is normal! If I had paid cash for a sleep study I could have gotten one done for $2500.00. Here I was expecting everyone to go YES that way more than what we paid. LOL. This is incredible. I had no clue about what the prices would be. Crazy.
WHERE you live also has an effect on the cost.
My sleep study was only $1900, the insurance paid $600 and I paid nothing. That was a follow up after my jaw surgery.
My previous sleep study done after my WLS was $2565 of which the provider was paid $700 and I paid nothing.
As to the rest, since my old insurance only keeps two years of EOB's on file, mine from pre-op have dropped off the list.
Just this past March, I had jaw surgery...here is how it broke down:
Hospital charged: $47333.18
Insurance paid hospital: $6780.99
My deductible: $225.00
Hospital had to "write off" over 40K in what they charged
IF I had been self pay, I would have only gotten a 25% discount off the 47K.
Oh, and mine is Medicare based.
