OK...I'm gonna do it....We need to talk poop

I'm 6 mo out.  I had my surgery on 8/1/12.  The horrific stink has gotten better for me.  When I had to go on antibiotics for an Upper Respiratory Infection last month, I started taking 2 probiotics a day.  It is so much better, I kept thinking "Is something wrong?"  I still have the PooPourri, it works great!   I have the purse size as well as the larger size for the bathroom.  I tried several different sprays (including the Warm Vanilla from Bath & Body Works) but nothing else worked for me.  I did use matches and still keep them in the bathroom just in case.

I do not have normal BMs yet, I have soft but kind of formed.

At first the bathroom issues were mortifying for me!  What's private is private!  Geez, it's so hard, the surgeon's office did not prepare me for this.  I would go into a public restroom hoping no one else would be in there at the same time.

As far as bathroom issues, that's the one thing that has gotten better now.  Hang in there!

The one thing now, I used a different Calcium last month which caused constipation.  Then I started thinking, "What is wrong with me not going to the bathroom at 2am & 5am?"  I quickly figured it out, I've switched and trying out a different one.

Yellow burning poo sounds normal early out lol Though it should be softer than what you are describing. It might be pain killers, calcium supplements, or iron supplements. Usually adding more fat or even upping your magnesium citrate will help with the hardness. With the burning you need to add an antacid. I had this problem early out a lot but now I have very little issue with acid tummy wise or burning poo. Only have to take antacids some times in the morning.

It eventually turns into this large light brown/khaki looking snake. Seriously its like poop in brown cloud form. Your bowls will change a lot over this next year, usually for the better.

Make sure to take a probiotic! So important :) I didn't do it consistently and boy oh boy it was not good ... so so bad

My first couple weeks I had the yellow poo too. It was like a science experiment.  I never had the acid though.  I'm almost 8 weeks out and things really got much better once I started taking my vitamins. I go as soon as I get up, and usually again about 30 minutes later.  Then sometimes again before bed.    It still stinks though lol...my husband tells me that it smells like we have a dead raccoon in the bathroom.

To the lurkers/pre-ops reading:  Before my DS, I was TERRIFIED of poo issues.  Seriously was considering the VSG instead because I was so scared of having chronic bowel issues.  I was also one of those people that would NEVER do my business anywhere other than my own home. But I am not a stinking/farting/pooping-myself machine.

Lap DS with Dr. Kemmeter 12/17/12

Although I have not had acid problems historically, my doctor did prescribe me Esomeprazole (generic Nexium) and Docusate Sodium (generic Colace or Correctol) -- certainly not because I have any issues with not being able to go, but so there's no strain (it's not a laxative, but is a stool softner).

I was aware that there would be bowel and gas issues, but not to the extent that it has been.  There's Refried Bean gas, and What Crawled Up Your Ass And Died? gas, and then there's DS gas.  I don't understand why the smell lingers unlike anything else.

And my BMs -- I feel like I'm wiping lube off my ass when I wipe, it's so slick from fat.  Then the other night I had some tomato sauce, went to the bathroom in the middle of the night without turning on the light, and the next morning was shocked to find an orangish-reddish greasy film coating the sides of the bowl, as if I had been soaking my pots and pans in there.

I just hope that this gets a little more manageable as time goes by.

In my opinion....

You had your Gal Bladder out as well right? After a gal bladder removal people often get IBS type symptoms. Yellow acidy stool and burning stomach and it burns your butt.  You can google it but I left you some links below. You will be shocked how many people have this exact complaint after gall bladder removal.  I have this problem and have since my gal bladder was removed in my 20s. It lessons over time. Directly after surgery though it was horrible. Oh and it can cause GERD as well.

If I do not eat all day it acts up and affects me badly and it will  Cause stomach pains and acidy, yellow, smelly, floating poop. It can be very painful and hard to hold. The fact that you had the DS and your gall bladder removed is just a double whammy. You are not getting much down and you have extra bile going into your stomach. It will take time for your body to adjust. I have lived with this for years. I am curious as to what it will be like after my DS.

I hope ya feel better soon. I hear they often remove the gall bladder with the DS. I wonder if people realize that this is one thing that probably contributes to this type of painful diarrhea directly after surgery and on and off thereafter.

I am sure I will be joining the Stinky Poop Wagon! LOL. I think it is kinda funny that I will finally get to stink my son out rather than the other way around. BWAHAHAH
