:-S Boo I have borderline osteopenia in L1 and L2 (dexa results).  I've upped my calcium to 3,330mg (was taking 2,000 in 3 batches, I'm now doing 5 batches).  I'm expecting labs back next week, so I'll post properly about this then when there's something proper to look at.

I must've had this pre-DS don't you think?  I can't imagine this happening in just 6 months.

I've been compliant on the Vitalady plan and never forgotten a batch of vites since I started at 4 weeks out.

B Creamcheese pancakes w low sugar jelly
& whipped heavy cream w Splenda
30
S Cheese 10
L Cheesy chicken 36
S Fromage frais 6
D Chili w cheese 33
S Almonds & serrano ham 10

Protein: 125
F 72+
V nighttime iron, copper & vit C pending
E Quick walk @ lunch & only 6,000 steps - I was obviously on my butt more today :-(

You might have been osteopenic pre-op like I was. Don't be surprised but your nutritional labs may be good but with rapid weight loss you always lose a little bone. So, if you were on the verge pre-op, or you also lost bone when you first got your sleeve, the most recent loss may have thrown you into the osteopenia column.

Here's what I'm taking to fight my osteoporosis since I stopped the Fosamax:  (all Vitalady capsules as much as possible)
6 doses of calcium citrate only - 2 capsules per dose
6 capsules of magnesium citrate - 1 capsule per dose
6 3mg boron tablets - 1 tablet per dose
1 50,000IU vitamin D3 - at dinnertime
4 vitamin K2 MK-7 150mcg capsules - 2 capsules in the morning and 2 capsules at dinnertime
2 vitamin K1 capsules - 1 capsule in the morning and 1 at dinnertime

The vitamin Ks seem to be helping me. My dietitian tests osteocalcin to see how the bone is working. Osteocalcin shows if you're producing osteoblasts, which indicate bone regrowth, if I understand it correctly.

You'll also want to test calcium serum, vitamin D3, parathyroid hormone (PTH).

I'm taking everything apart from Boron.  What's that good for?  I'll hang with 5 batches of calcium for a few more days - getting 6 plus iron will be tough, so I'll hold off for a few days 'til I'm used to the new level.

Is there any exercise for the lumbar I should do or is plain old walking OK?

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

Walking is good. I've also seen something recently about wearing weights (like a weight belt or vest) is good for rebuilding bone.

The boron is another mineral that aids in calcium absorption.

I sometimes take 2 doses of 900mg of calcium to make sure I have time to get the iron in without competition. My dietitian seems to think this is ok. Also, Vitalady has said it's ok as well. You might want to confirm with her.

Good to know about the calcium. I hope by zinc improves as I'm also doing 2 x 75 mg batches of that too. Will be in touch with Vitalady when I have my labs. Thanks so much for your help ((hugs)).

You're doing great!  Congratulations on your new job too.  : )

I've meet one DSr and her fiance from Atlanta. She is a sweetheart. I'm not sure if she goes to a support group in the area or not. I'll ask and let you know.

I never heard of your surgeon but I read Major Mom's comment about Atlanta.  The groups that Dr Smith's office run are very RnY related.  I would never bother with one of those. Where did you have surgery?
