Is it the flavor you hated, or did it give you stomach issues?

Flavor: you can add sugar free syrups, cinnamon, or decaf coffee to your shakes

If its messing with your stomach, it might be the milk. Try Silk, or heavy cream?

You should be trying to get in a total of 100 g of protein, but I've seen that some go progressively 30g in 30 days, 60 in 60, 90 in 90, etc.

I'm sure the vets will chime in with more options and with the amount of protein you need to be getting in. Hope that helps and you find something that works. Good luck!

I'm 6.5 mo out.  I had a terrible time for the first 2.5 mo with protein trying everything.  I settled on Jay Robb because I could keep it down.  Remember the 30-60-90 rule.  All you have to get in the first 30 days is 30g of protein.  Whatever protein you choose make sure that it is "WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE"  stamp that in your brain.  Someone told me about Unjury which is a Medical Grade protein, that's what I switched to and have been using it since that time.  If you call them on the phone and get set up on auto-delivery, you get 15% off then you control how much and when you get it.  I have started getting creative with it.

Get some Plain Greek Yogurt, add Almond Milk or Cream (if you can tolerate it) - MIX THIS UP BEFORE adding the protein powder, then add a scoop of protein powder.  It kind of makes it like a mousse.  You will be able to get this into your system easily.

I get creative with the unflavored now, adding sugar free stuff to it with my yogurt.  So, I don't get bored with just my Chocolate.

Then I would get the Chocolate Splendor because it's made with Splenda not Equal.  What I determined is that Equal (Aspartame)gave me the "severe" gurgles!

Keep on this board, WONDERFUL people here who are willing to help you through this time!

Hang in there!   One other thing, SIP SIP SIP... Always have water in your hand!

I might have been getting 10 grams at two weeks and I wasn't getting enough fluids either.  At three weeks I got a bag of fluids at the ER and made the turn around and started getting some in.  Your "goal" is 30 by the end of 4 weeks, 60 by 60 and 90 by 90 and then well over 100 forever.

Just concentrate on fluids today.  You can order sample protein powders from VitaLady which can save you a bundle from buying something you hate.

I used Chike chocolate during most of my weight loss.  It had more carbs which is probably why I liked it more but those added carbs did not detract from my stellar weight loss and the protein was important.

If you really feel the need for protein right now you can try Atkins protein shakes.  That wouldn't cost too much if you hated it.

Do you drink coffee?  If so ask MajorMom how she makes protein coffee.

But really for today just work on fluids.

First of all, cut yourself some slack.  I know I drove myself crazy worrying about what I couldn't get in.  I'm a natural worrier, and so I practically obsessed over if I was doing it right, was I doing it enough, was it at the right time or the wrong time, blah blah blah.

Just do the best you can - strive for the 30, 60, 90.  I was able to get in eggs with cheese, cottage cheese, lunch meats - but nt very small amounts - and I supplemented with an Unjury drink made with either milk or water (21 g if made with water, 29 g if made with milk).  Peanut butter added to shakes also helped up protein.  I also had a horrible time getting in anywhere near 64 oz of water.  My doctor was happy that I could get in 32-40 oz a couple weeks out.  If you still have your tube, you can always use that to supplement your water and also to deliver your shake(s).  Try not to obsess over the food and water, and make your best attempts - it doesn't do a lot of good pushing too much in, if it's gonna come back out!!  It gets better and easier.  At 14 weeks out, I can now drink liquids with the rest of the cool kids and I can eat considerably more than I did just even 4 weeks ago.

What is and where do I get Unjury? Surgery scheduled for April 3rd.

Unjury is just another brand of protein powder.  It is medical quality whey protein isolate.  Most flavors have 21g of protein per serving and it comes in flavors of classic chocolate **** chocolate splendor (better), vanilla (pretty good), strawberry sorbet (which I found unpalatable), unflavored, and chicken soup (which I thought was great, but it's not something I can do all the time).  It can be ordered online from www.UNUURY.com.  It's not the most expensive I've seen, but it is a little pricey.  If you order it on auto-fill, I believe they give you a discount.

If you like coffee flavors, I'm in love with Big Train Fit Frappes in Mocha, Espresso, and they have a Chai Latte that's awesome.  They only have 10g of protein per scoop, so you generally have to use 2 scoops, and then it's a bit overpowering flavor-wise (www.bigtrain.com).

Good luck on finding something you like!!

Thank you for the websites so I can look into them. @ Valerie - definitely taking your advise about not getting mass quantities of anything right after surgery. Thanks, too, for your advice about using cream versus milk. Thanks, you two ;)

Susie- I just had another thought for you.  Celebrate ENS makes protein powders (vanilla cake batter being one of the flavors)  and other supplements, but at their website https://www.celebratevitamins.com/shop/protein/protein.html, if you scroll down toward the bottom on the left-hand side, there is a listing for Sample Pack.  I think it costs $3, but they give you a $3.00 coupon toward your next order.  Just another way for you to try something new - and their other products.

Thanks, Lisa. I'm copying and pasting y'all's information on all of this to my notes so I can start ordering and getting some samples for those first few days after surgery. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
