IT'S SO POWERFUL
I think people dont know about it, because not a lot of doctors do it. I initially went for a consult at a well known local hospital whose bariatric division was a "center of excellence" or something like that. They only did the RNY, and thus, I never knew anything about a DS. Most people use "gastric bypass" as a generic term, and dont realize how many forms of bypass actually exist.
My dad had the DS and didnt even realize what he really had. Hes not on computers, retired, and puts his total trust in a dr. The only reason he got the DS was because he knew someone who had "gastric bypass" surgery who had lost a lot of weight and went to the same dr.
Which really brings word-of-mouth so important to those of us who have had the DS. Doctors sell what they do (rny) and not what they cant do.

I think that there is another good reason that most people don't want to talk about. Taking on the DS as a permanent lifestyle is not something that everyone is capable of doing. I think that might be especially true of those that are unable to control their impulses and can't follow instructions. The DS means a LIFETIME of changes that include daily supplementation. There are a lot of people that I would not recommend this surgery for because they would/could not follow life saving instructions. Sad but true
