I know EXACTLY what you mean! After my sugery approval, my aunt asked me to join her and some other friends and family to do a weight loss challenge.  I hadn't planned on spilling the beans about surgery, but it seemed like a great way to let her know.

She immediately started telling me how I should do it with diet/exercise first, she also told me that she knows "tons" of people that end up having complications later.  I told her that I knew what I was doing, but I made my decision.  She finally just huffed and said ok.

Now fast forward to today.  Her and everyone else that did her challenge are STILL overweight.  Not to mention our entire side of the family has serious weight issues, diabetes, heart disease, etc.

If there is anything I regret, is it telling ANYONE other than my husband.  Too many people know now for me to lie unless it was a complete stranger.  I found out really fast that if you tell 1 person, you have to tell everyone.  I'm not ashamed, I'm just sick and tired of all the "couldn't you just eat less" comments!!!!  Grrr!

Yup, I made the mistake of telling a few people and now I wished I had not for the same reasons. It is all I can do to keep it off my facebook because there are people I really do not want knowing because I know they will get ugly about it. Eventually I think it will come out. I would rather it come out when I am thinner than before surgery though. I do not need discouragement but encouragement. So I am waiting before I come out of the closet (so to speak)...lol. Thank you for your story.
