Zantac/Nexium
I have taken nexium for YEARS. I am still on that. I am VERY nauseated. I was wandering if I should try to add a zantac. I am asking about zantac (generic actuall) because my hubby takes it, I already have it here and it is cheap.
The doctor has me on phenergan 3 times a day. I am still icky with that....
Thanks for suggestions,
Michelle

I have taken Nexium once a day prior to surgery for about a year. I am 6 mo out. I take Nexium every morning on an empty stomach and 30 minutes later I get a protein shake or my yogurt in to activate it (my new Gastro told me this). It made a world of difference with acid reflux. At times, I take it at night. For instance, when I eat a steak, for some reason, I have heartburn/acid reflux whatever you want to call it.
I carry Zantac in my purse.
These two drugs are not for nausea. I used Zofran Sublingual and Zofran pills and would sometimes have to use them together. Make sure you are getting enough fluids!
Zofran is an RX so your Dr should call it in for you!
Good Luck
I was getting in my 64 with no problem. And then... Monday night I drank 6 oz of milk. Made me very ill. I threw up. Which caused me to cramp horrible. Since then I've only been able to do about 20-36 oz of water a day.
Intolerance to straight milk is pretty common - so kiss that practice good-bye. This includes instant pudding too, so be warned. It's really the only dairy I cannot tolerate. I get all gurgly, bloated, then gassy, then diarrhea.

Val is right about keeping hydrated. Some people find they have to take Nexium or some other acid pump inhibitor morning AND night after their DS surgery so you could ask your Dr. about that. Zofran works pretty well for lots of people so ask about your Dr. about using that instead of phenergan. Continuous nausea isn't OK so keep tell your Dr and keep telling until it gets better.
Have heard that small doses of prescription lorazepam (0.25 to 0.5mg) can work wonders for nausea.
BTW...If you have insurance, they will likely give you the generic...Omeprazole. Usual dose is 40mg. Make sure you take it every day without fail. If you ever wake up with your esophagus on fire, you'll know you forgot to take it the day before, and I guarantee you, one of those experiences is enough to make you remember!

Just a small warning to get your magnesium levels checked if you have been on Nexium daily for a long period of time. I was on Nexium daily for 10 years and have been getting weekly magnesium infusions at my local hospital for the last 2 years and only now is it slooooowly starting to improve. If you experience heart flutters, unusual anxiety, shortness of breath, exhaustion, joint and bone pain these could be symptoms. Also be sure to get dexa scans as there are now problems with severe bone loss showing up in long time users.
