Allmost 2 weeks out...questions

I am taking this thing day by day.....the vets are so right when they tell you your full time job is to get your water in...stay hydrated.  It has been full time. I cannot believe the difference in my sense of smell and taste have changed. I can smell the air freshners down the hall....they just make me sick.

I am still of full liquids. I do not feel like eating anything let alone drinking....but I am doing the best I can. I have been adding unflavored protein to my SF chocolate pudding. I am soooo craving a piece of cheddar cheese and egg salad. I want to put some egg salad in a blender and eat it. I think my body just wants real food....it's been 3 weeks....I want cheese! And forget about the grumbling tummy......its neverending. I have until Thursday that I will be pushed up to pureed.  And at the drop of a hat I am nauseous. Please anyone with advice or re-assurance help !

It might be worth a call to the dietitian to ask if you can puree some soft foods and try them. Hang in there!

Hi,

I know exactly how you are feeling I am just two months out. It is a full time job! I know you have heard this before but it will get better those earlier days are already starting to dim for me. I was lucky and never got nauseous all though my surgeon sent me home with meds for it but I never took them. Are you on some type of acid reducer sometimes that can cause you to feel sick to your stomach? My tastes are still a bit off, I use to love coffee and haven't been able to tolerate it since my surgery but its getting better.  Only thing I can tell you is to do the best you can , hang in there it gets so much better.

I had two bites of scrambled egg about three days out and I still remember how heavenly it tasted with the salty butter I cooked it in.  I chewed and chewed and chewed it and only had two bites but it did help my mental state a whole lot.  Cheese might be harder on your tummy but cottage cheese might work.

If pudding is allowed, try making some with ricotta cheese.  Just add pudding to 16oz of ricotta and enough cream to soften the consistency.  This will stick in your stomach a little more and give you a protein boost.  You can also mix with some egg/parmesan/nutmeg/basil, top with tomato sauce and cheese and microwave for the inside of a stuffed shell.  I also think that egg salad is a wonderful idea to transition to soft foods.  Give your surgeon a call this morning if you feel like trying soft foods.  If it doesn't sit well, you can go back to liquids.  Some of us were eating soft foods the day we come home, so approach differs with each surgeon.

ITA w/Gina.  Call the dietician.  They had me on soft pureed foods at 1 week.

Regarding the grumbling tummy.  Mine was horrific for quite awhile!  It would have conversations over my conversations.  It was the craziest thing.  It was driving me crazy.  I figured out that anything with Equal was making it worse.  I drank a lot of Krystal Light the first 3-4 months.  Once I gave that up, it is not as bad.  In fact, it doesn't even happen daily.  I was at Costco last week, they had samples of Dr Pepper Ten. Not even thinking, I picked up a sample.  After I had it, the girl told me it had Aspartame.  I was like OH NO!  Sure enough, about 15 min later, my stomach started having a conversation with itself... It lasted all day long!

Teaches me to me very mindful of sampling food at Costco!

Moral of the story, with this WLS, you will get more in tune with your body than ever before.  Learn what sets off what reaction.

Hang in there!  DRINK DRINK DRINK water!!!

I was eating tiny amounts of Greek yogurt, mashed potatoes and tomato soup with cheese melted in it 5-6 days out.
