Bad gas

Generally, a carb is a carb as far as weight gain goes.  That said, DSers absorb simple or processed carbohydrates more easily than complex or unprocessed carbs - although both are absorbed more than well enough to cause weight gain.  With regards to the gas effects of carbs it seems to be more individualized. For some straight sugar is not so evil, but wheat is the culprit. For others the milk sugar, lactose, is an evil gas maker. Rice can cause problems, as can potatoes or corn meal or other starchy foods and the normal culprits of cruciferous vegetables and legumes. Some DSer's mitigate the carbohydrate gas production with the controversial use of the antibiotic metronidazole (Falgyl).

The product is Devrom, and it comes in chewable banana flavored tablets or swallow-whole capsules.  I don't care for the chewables, so I use the capsules.

It's true that carbs will make you fart...and badly..however, it's finding out whether simple carbs or complex carbs are worse for you.

Simple carbs get me every time, and products containing gluten if I overdo them. 100% whole wheat gives me no problems at all, and anything made by Kashi works for me, especially the red box Go Lean cereal.  That alone counts for about 60% of my carb allowance per day.

Everybody's flatulence stinks...a DSer's is just extra stinky because of the partially digested/fermented food in the large intestine waiting to exit the body... it produces more gas.
