Diet.  Carbs cause gas.

Probiotics.

If that doesn't help you may need a round of the antibiotic flagyl to get your flora back in balance.

I don't know of anything to make the gas smell better.  But the above can help decrease your gas.  When I eat correctly I have very little gas.  When I eat carbs I have TERRIBLE gas.

It's all related to what you're eating:

      Simple Carbs

     Artificial Sweeteners

      Lactose Intolerance

****add probiotics, either in pill form or food form (yogurt) or both**** to ensure good bacterial balance

I've had bad gas a couple of times, and I took Gas-X.  My surgeon told me about it.  It works for me.

2 probiotics a day has helped me.  I've also become Lactose Intolerant.  I can still have Yogurt & Butter.

Get in tune with your body... :-)

I had 2 Poo-Pourri's - 1 for my purse and 1 for home.  This is the greatest stuff every invented!  It cuts the smell like nothing else!  I haven't had to use it in awhile since I added another yogurt a day and 2 probiotics.

I just had my DS a week and a half ago, so I know that my body is still adjusting, but does the gas and BM amounts and smell ever get any better and/or less frequent?  I seriously don't know that some pocket sized travel deodorizer would be enough with the copious amount of gas and stool I seem to have now.  I had been warned, but sheesh!

Get used to it.

While it is true that you CAN eat anything you want, you will pay severely for eating carbohydrates - and some carbs will be harder on you than others.  To not have awful gas you must not eat carbohydrates, or eat very few.  Your diet becomes one of high protein and high fat for the rest of your life in an attempt to avoid the horrible embarrassing gas.

The DS is an effective Atkins diet enforcer.

Different surgeons give different common channel lengths and it seems the shorter common channels cause more gas problems, along with more malabsorption issues.

While you will likely never eliminate all of the the malodorous gas that goes hand in hand with a DS weight loss surgery there are some things that you can do to deal with it.   For instance, if you eat only protein for most of the day you might be able to keep the worst of your stinky farts to the evening when you are home alone - or maybe only during the night when you are asleep. Unfortunately those night time farts can interfere with intimacy, so be forewarned.

Otherwise, some DSers have found that aggressive use of probiotics and prebiotics help somewhat.  Some DSers use deodorizers in an attempt to mask the odor. Some use candles. Some take a course of antibiotics when it get to where they or  their family or their co-workers can no longer handle the smell.  Some DSers just take an antibiotic every day to try to keep the odor at bay.

Most DSers seem willing to pay the price of dealing with malodorous gas to be thin and or healthier.

The DS is a WLS with an Atkins diet.

I never did Atkins, so am only kinda sorta aware, but when you're talking carbs and gas, does that include sugar carbs, or the more grain/starch/plant based carbs?  Or is a carb is a carb is a carb?
