SSooo happy to finally be home
What a trip so far....surgery was 1/24. I was supposed to be sent home on 1/26 but that didn't happen. I do not think it had anything to do with the DS......but immediately following surgery I had these God aweful esophageal spasms....you could literally hear them from my throat. I cannot explain the feeling.....sort of like a few worms dancing at the back of your throat....I took a mirror just to check my throat it felt so real...but them again I was on some heavy drugs.
I was surprised that I didn't have a pain pump when I woke up. My poor nurses..I had them making their money the nights they had me. I was discharged on Monday only to be back in on Tuesday due to vomiting. I remember being so out of it but remembering all of you here......I came on OH and searched my symptoms..no doubt, I was going back. I was surprised I was put on a K+ drip also. But I was so out of it I just wanted to sleep.
The lapsites are not bad at all....the pain in the abdomen....its just sore. I'm still scared to have my BMs.....they are definitely different but everything is working. Everything I looked at the first days...even water.....I just did not want anything to do with it. I wonder if they call it the "switch" because I tell you all what...it switched something in my brain.....smells are so strong to me. The smell of cigarette smoke is just horrendous....no joke....and if you read my blog Cigs were a great big piece of my life not too long ago. I was discharged today. I cannot lie. I am scared that I will not get my proteins in or water for that matter. Never in my life has everything edible seem so distasteful....so undesireable. But I trust the DS vets who have gotten me this far. I cannot thank you enough for your help so far. It will get better because you say it will!!!
thanks fellow Jersey Girl! If I remember correctly..through all my drugs...you have a special day coming up don't you????????I pray for a speeedy recovery girl.
Lizzie, being home in your own bed is wonderful isn't it!
I don't mean to lecture, but you gotta get those fluids in. Try all different temperatures and flavors. I liked 1/2 strength crystal lite lemonaide, ginger tea, and peppermint tea. And just do lots of little tiny sips. Hopefully that will help you to avoid another trip to the hospital. Keep us posted on how you are doing.
Glad you're home. Hang in there, it does get easier.
