Difficulty with pre op low carb

I am having surgery on march 13th with dr. Stewart. I am trying to go low carb high protein and I am having a really hard time. I'm concerned that I am having a hard time.

Did anyone else try to go low carb & high protein before surgery? Was it difficult? If I was able to stay on a diet I wouldn't need surgery right?

The restriction will definitely help.  Post op if you do protein first then you probably won't have any space left for carbs.  Unless your surgeon requires this pre-op I wouldn't worry too much about low carbing.

Don't stress out over it pre-op.  Fact is that post-op, most carbs are going to make you feel like crap so you will want to avoid them and the restriction will help in that even if you did want to have - I don't know french fries for example, you would first eat your protein and then there would be room for maybe 2 or 3 of them so its not a big deal.    If there was one thing I would suggest you work on pre-op is to get used to drinking your water every day so it can become part of your routine by the time you have surgery.  8 glasses every single day - minimum.

The pre op low carb thing was just something I was trying to do to get used to eating high protein. I guess I'm trying to be some sort of super patient. The fluids are a great idea! I have been working on that. Thanks for the feedback.

The later in the day you eat your first carb, the better. Carbs tend to make you crave more carbs. It will be much easier after surgery.

I'm right there with you - I keep telling myself that I am doing it for a reason. It's to help my surgery go smooth - the less carbs, the smaller the kidney / liver (I get them mixed up) and the better my surgery will go. However, its been 1 week today and I haven't been great... but every little bit helps! Keep thinking of the small victories.

That being said- I would kill for a loaf of bread right now! :)
