10 days post op
Michelle,
Glad you are getting in your fluids.
When does your surgeon say you can move to soft foods? That is the time frame you need to look at...not when others here did it.

I am 5 weeks post op. Still doing VERY little eating. First 2 weeks were horrible and I just threw up everything. Even fluids. I can now do yogurt (not greek, too heavy still), soups (not creamed), broth, cooked veggies sometimes. I try new things sometimes, but it's hard to get down and stay down. I actually tried some red meat today. Just a bite or 2. Not going to try that again for quite a while. I would say, just go with your doctor's opinion and how your body feels. I'm tempted to try stuff, but I know that if I get sick, it's way worse than the pretend hunger I feel.
hey there, im 4.5 months pre-op, and every day is still trial and error for me.....some days I can keep everything down, and others, anything and everything I put in my my comes back up.....but in the beginning when I was just feeling really hungry, I would just make myself a vamped up protein shake, and that would take the hunger away....I use either pre made protein shakes or a scoop and half of powder, half cup skim mil**** and some type of fruit, or if no fruit will use peanut butter...just use your imagination, whatever type of stuff you like and make a shake from it......put it in your blender and mix it up and enjoy.....
I am about 10 days post op myself. Like you, I am getting my vitamins in and fluids, but having trouble getting the protein in.
I have graduated from clear liquids to filled liquids. I have had creamed soups, but with only 9-10 grams per cup, I am coming up short. I am doing protein drinks twice a day. It seems like the soups make me full for hours.
My doctors schedule is very liberal to most I have read on here. For some reason the seafood just sounds good. I can't hardly gag down a protein shake. That is the only thing I am having trouble. with ....
I can have soft foods chewed well. from the doctors schedule.
If your doctor's schedule okays it, go for it...but try one new item at a time...it's like teaching a baby to eat...you try one new food every day or every other day. Go slow and don't pu**** And make sure you still get continue to get all your fluids.
I suspect you might find you have a full signal...most of us do of some kind. Mine is sneezing.

I had the same problem with the protein drinks, I still don't do well with them after 3 months. I ate and still eat a lot of soup - broth with some noodles, mushrooms, chopped spinach and use bariatric foods like the protein pretzels to get the protein up - dunked in the broth they get very soft and my stomach could handle those from the beginning. I also use the protein hot chocolates to get my protein up. I tried crab during month 1 and threw it up. Shrimp is easier - a shrimp bisque soup helps up the calories and fats.
I had purchased the VitaLady regime and threw up whenever I took them so I switched to all chewable and sublingual vits/mins which I am still taking at 3 months. Hope to use the stuff I already bought in the next couple of months.
Everyone is different - every day is an adventure. Just go with the flow and track what you eat and how it makes you feel so you can be smart with your choices.
