How long is recovery after DS ?

Hello everyone. I'm curious about the recovery time after having the DS surgery. I'm sure it is longer if it is open rather than with the small holes.  I'm just wondering cause my surgeon Dr. Anthone did a pannilectomy ( excess skin removal) and I'm waiting approval for the DS surgery but I am already six weeks out from the skin removal and still have 5 or 6 more to go before the wound vac comes off.  Any feed back anyone has would be great.

I had an open DS with Dr. Anthone back on November 7.  I was in the hospital for 5 days - probably could have come home on day 4.  Within a week of being home, I was pretty good to go, but remained off of work for a total of 6 weeks.  The hole at the bottom of my incision is still open.  It's healing very slowly, and about 3 weeks ago, I had an infection inside my incision and they had to cut along the scar and let it drain.  That one seems to be healing better.

DS on 12/18/12

Had an open ds on 12/18/12 (5.3 weeks).  Still very sore... my stomach hurts when I move, roll over, get in a car etc.   I still have an opening and my Dr. told me it could take another 4 weeks to heal.  My incision is still draining quite a bit.

It's very individual.  I was open and was pretty much back to my normal routine 2 weeks post.  I didn't have to go back to work for 6 weeks so I enjoyed the time off, walked a lot, and got to know my rearranged innards.

This varies greatly from person to person.  I vote to give yourself at least a month off to bet your digestive system on some kind of schedule.  My DS was open and my incision was healed in two weeks, however I was very listless for a good 6 weeks.  By the time I returned to work 8 weeks post op, I hit the ground running.
