Shared bathroom at Old Faithful Inn. Can I do this to others??????????
We are going to Yellowstone this summer. I have been lurking on the Xanterra website for weeks trying to get a room at the Old Faithful Inn. Finally today, one was available. Bad news is that it has a shared bathroom (down the hall) with who knows how many people. Is it morally wrong to share my morning DS issues in a shared bathroom? Could I possibly go to hell for doing this? Could the others on the hallway chase me down and forcibly remove me from the hotel?
Or should I just forget about staying there and stick with a room in crappy Grant Village?
I've stayed there and it's worth it! Probably took me a couple years to get a room there. Here's a trick. There are lots of public bathrooms in the huge lobby area. I would get up, dressed, and go to the lobby. Sit in front of the huge fireplace and have a cup of coffee. It's great. Also there's a big observation deck where you can sit outside and watch Old Faithful. At night you can hear the wolves howl.
Check out West Yellowstone the next time you need a place to stay. Much better than Grants Village. Gardiner has a bit of charm too. Another place that's almost as cool as the lodge is the cabins at Mammoth Hot Springs up by the Gardiner entrance to the park.
I do this same trick on cruises too. Those cabin bathrooms are tiny with no ventilation. I get up and use the large public bathrooms that are always deserted early in the morning because everyone is still in their cabin.

What's the deal with hotel bathrooms not having exhaust fans? Stay in hotels 10 to 12 nights a month and it is very rare to find one with an exhaust fan in the bathroom of the room. A recent pleasant exception was Embassy Suites which had a very effective bathroom exhaust fan.
So the use-the-lobby-restroom is my go to plan as well.
We are only doing Old Faithful Inn for one night so maybe I can risk the assault on others. It was a pure fluke to get a room there. You normally have to book 1 year out and are lucky to get a room even then. Then we are going to West Yellowstone for one night. Then Gardiner for one night. Then Cooke City for one night. Then Cody for one night then over to Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Custer, etc.
We went to Yellowstone one other time and stayed at West Yellowstone for several nights and it was just too much driving to get back over there at night. This time we are packing lightly and just moving around so that we can see more and not backtrack too much.
