Congratz !!!!!! ;-)
I never ate a bite, or sipped any protein shakes, only water, they carefully measured. I talked them into letting me go on the 3rd morning. I promised to have protein shakes I had waiting for me at home. Getting out of bed, initiating walking often on your own, sitting in the chair with my computer, all convinced them I was ready to leave. I had painful spasms in my chest with drinking water, couldnt imagine swallowing food or shakes. They sent me home with Valium to relax the spasms. Never needed it after the first 2 weeks. I think mine was from swelling from the intubation, or the surgery. It disappeared eventually in a week or 2. Be sure to have lots of water, that's a major deciding point for release. It all gets better day by day, even a year and 1/2 out as I am.
Best wishes for a quick recovery. !!!
Welcome to the dark side. I hope you are home now.

Did you have any strictures from the band? I'm not an MD, but I'm guessing that could be where your band was, and there's some scarring there that's narrowed your esophagus. If that's what it is, it will probably stretch out. Mention that to your doctor.
I was about 8 weeks out and I had to go back for a little stretching out (under anesthesia). It was outpatient, so if that's what they have to do, don't worry about it, it's a very short procedure.
