Just 4 weeks post-op...feeling queasy ALL THE TIME

My husband and I both had the DS surgery last month.  I'm 4 weeks out, he's 3 weeks out.  I am feeling queasy constantly and have a hard time wanting to eat, let alone keeping it down.  Hubby not feeling the same.  Is this normal, or has anyone else felt this.  I've had to go back in 3 times for IV's for fluids, even though I'm constantly sipping water or sucking on ice cubes.  I just feel like there is so much stomach acid or something going on that it makes me queasy.  I take omoprazole every day, too.

If omeprazole isn't doing it for you, call the doc and get something else to try.  There are lots of meds out there.  Or even get some Tums to try.  The queasy is from dehydration, most likely.  So make this easy on yourself, get some meds that work!

I had the same problem!  I was taking Zofran around the clock and it wasn't helping.  I finally started taking Tums, and it was like a miracle.  So I called my surgeon and started taking Prilosec morning and night instead of just once a day.  After 2 days I felt like a new person!

I also had to get IV fluids at about a month out (right before I started taking more Prilosec).  After the nausea stopped because the acid production was reduced, I was able to eat and drink much more which also made me feel alot better.  I still can't do cold liquids though.  I drink hot decaf tea all day because cold liquids just do not sit well with me.

So talk to your doctor and get on a medicine that controls your reflux, and then keep trying different fluids until you find something that works for you.

Definitely get that stomach acid under control to help, but it sounds like you're still terribly dehydrated.

I was exactly the same (though managed to stay hydrated) and doubling down on the antacid didn't help me - only time.  Hang in there if the change in antacid doesn't help.  It calmed down at 8 weeks, though my stomach is very finicky about what I eat.  I am finally more stable with things now that I hit 12 weeks.

I pretty much ate nothing but soup for 2.5 months!  But I am doing so much better now. The best advice is repeated over and over here  on the forum- everyone is different, so do what works for you.
