I've heard rumors that Vanguri may have stopped doing the DS.  He was doing them open and not laparoscopically.

Dr. Vanguri never did many, and the reports were that now he has stopped altogether.  I wish he would be taken off of the DSfacts.com list.

To the OP, I believe you will have to travel.

I hesitate to even say this name, since now you might look into him, but Dr. Schweitzer at Johns Hopkins USED to be on the list at DSfacts.com, but was removed for good reason.  He no longer does it in one surgery -- he only does it now if you try a stand-alone sleeve first, and get insufficient weight loss from that.  The people with a DS here highly recommend that the DS be done from the start to get the maximum benefits.  Also, he gave one of the members here a really pathetic half-ass DS with very long common channel before he officially stopped doing the DS in one surgery.  There will also be much less likelihood of insurance covering your revision from sleeve-to-DS for lack of weight loss.

You should know ahead of time the if you pick Dr. Elairny in Virginia, that he does not accept being in-network with insurances for the DS (he does for other things like if you only had a gallbladder removed), so you will probably owe several thousand dollars more if you pick him than if you go with someone who accepts the lower rate that insurances are willing to pay for the DS.  Some people are very happy with him, though, and find the expense worth it.

How about Dr. Sudan at Duke in Durham NC?   He accepted what my insurance paid and he did not charge any kind of program fees.

I was very happy with Dr. Elariny, but he does have the weird billing situation as previously mentioned.  I still follow up with him for other non-DS related issues and it is not the same.
