Glad you're interested in the meeting. I think you'll find it helpful.

The only catch is that we have lost our long time meeting location, and I don't know yet where the meeting will be. The group leader is actively working on this. So just don't show up at the old place because you will be disappointed.

Thanks for the heads up on the location change.  I'll double check this as time gets closer to the meeting date.

I doubt Kaiser would be much help as far as a Registered Dietician for DS.  I'm a northern California Kaiser patient.  My DS approval sailed though.  I'm having my surgery late Feb with Dr. Rabkin.

I figure for food advice I'll use the information and support group from my surgeon's practice, and this site and DS Facts. I'm self-reliant for research. It's not too difficult.  Protein good; sugar and starch bad; read labels.

One tip for being a Kaiser patient is to never be passive. You must develop a relationship with your PCP and know how to work the system.  I'm much more satisfied with Kaiser than my previous insurance, Aetna. My parents have relatively good, private insurance.  I get much better care and better access to health care than they do.

I was insured by Kaiser for YEARS and asked repeatedly about WLS and was told that they didn't do it.  Left Kasier with a new job -  paid out of pocket for surgery in Mexico, then new job went back to Kaiser and I lucked out.   Right when my 3 month labs were due I searched for a new doc and found Dr. Vij in Pleasanton.

He was AMAZED that I had been told Kaiser didn't do WLS because he was in the bariatric dept in Fremont!!  He was great about doing my labs and has been very supportive helping me with the areas I needed to change, etc.
