Theres no need to "up the protein" in a protein shake if you're using the right ones, the need to is to "down the carbs" by using the right ones.  Some suggest we can't use anything over 30g protein per shake anyway.  My protein supp is 50g per serving and zero carb.  If you truly are just trying to increase your protein don't worry and stop using milk.  If you just prefer the creaminess of milk in the shake then use cream or half/half, cut it with water and stop using milk.

Again qualifying my answer in that I have the intestinal configuration of a modern DS, but with a pouch.

Also, I was done back in the dark ages. 18 yrs. My doc had done his fist
WLS in 1963.He grew up on a farm. Yet one of his firmest rules was no milk. This does not include cheese or any dairy from which the lactose has been taken. I asked how he got from a milk-drinking farm boy to so anti milk. His answers were that milk adds about 425 lbs to a baby cow in 6 months. It's used to fatten human babies. Ok, so far, so good. But what about US? He had done old JB's and early DS, and had noticed the pattern that his milk drinkers didn't get as good a weight loss as his lactose intolerants. AHA! Now we have a better reason.

My mentor, for whom I'd do anything to copy to the last hair, said, "Just don't use milk or milk subs as a beverage." OK, so I use half and half if I need a milk-like thing for cooking or some such. I just don't drink it. I pack away eggs, cheese, cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream.......

So, pick someone you admire and follow them. My mentor is 2 yrs ahead of me, and I even made the same mistakes. Thought I was immune to sugar and gained, just like her. Stopped sugar, and lost, just like her. She's 10 yrs younger, but in fact, we look a LOT alike, both red heads, similar haircut. She's taller and more pear to my apple, and brown eyes to my blue, but enough that ppl that met her swear up and down it was me. LOL

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
