Any DS'ers from Montreal, Quebec, Canada?

Hi, I am waitng for my DS surgery date which I was told could be anytime as soon as this coming March. I will be having the surgery done by Dr. Oliver Court at the Royal Victoria Hospital. I have total faith in the doc but still I alternate between butterflies in my stomach (because I'm excited) but then I also get panicky and wonder if I should go through with it. Nonetheless, I truly appreciate this forum but I was wondering if DS has been performed on people closer to home. Knowing that the DS procedure is less common overall, I would like to connect and hear experiences from those who have done it in Montreal.

Please, everyone is welcome to respond !

Thank-you

I had my surgery in Saskatchewan Canada and it has been a good experience, my Dr has now retired so we have no help here if we have any issues, so we have to work with our family Dr for bloodwork, etc. You need to be on top of your health if you do this because not a lot of people understand this procedure.

I hear Quebec has great Dr. and they specialize in this surgery so I believe you are in great hands.

I'm quite far from you now, but lived in Montreal for 4 years a long time ago. It's a wonderful city, and I'm glad to learn that the DS is being done now at the Royal Vic.

There is a very active DS group in Laval, associated with Dr. Marceau. He and his group have published there excellent longterm results with the DS.

I had the DS in Montreal with Dr. Gagner.  All went well and continues to go well.  High level of expertise.

I too had my surgery in Montreal with Dr. Gagner but I live in Ottawa.  I am pleased with the surgery and my journey to date.  Best of luck on yours.

Hi,

I just had part one (the Gastric Sleeve) of my weight loss surgery by Dr. Court on March 12th 2013. I'll be having the second part (the switch) in a year. I'm part of a support group in Montreal that meets once a month and a few people have had the DS surgery in my group and nobody regrets it.

Yes, Dr. Court was really great. I've dealt with him as well as two of his residents Dr. Mueller and Dr. Neville and all 3 were very nice, helpful and answered any and all questions I had. In fact I found everyone from the receptionist to the nutritionist very supportive.

The support group meets once a month, usually the 3rd Wednesday of every month in St-Laurent. (The parking is free) It is an English support group. The French one meets at the Royal Vic. Not sure of their schedule but they are meeting April 3rd and will have a Plastic Surgeon present to answer questions at that meeting.

Our next meetings are April 17th, May 15th and June 19th all from 7 to 9 pm. The address is St- Laurent Community Centre 1375 rue Grenet, Ville St-Laurent H4L 5K3. Our group is led by Jennifer Schultz ([email protected] 514 631 5502 or cell 514 880 6323) People in our group have had gastric sleeve, gastric bypass and duodenal switch and surgery that dates back as far as 7 years to as recent as 1 week. A few people who have not had the surgery yet, as well as people who have not yet signed up for it and are curious. Our group is quite varied, male and female ages as young as 24 to 60 and up. I started going before I had my surgery and it's been great. Being around people who have all gone through the same situations (and complications for some) and are at different stages in their journey is so helpful.

Good luck on your surgery! Let me know how it goes.
