For those of you keeping your carbs low - how the heck are you doing it?

So I see people (and successful ones at that) who work to keep their carbs between 30 and 50.  Just what the heck are you eating?

Today, my plan was/is below, and I'm coming in at 93 carbs.  I see that I can probably cut down some carbs by changing skim milk to whole milk - and not eating stuff with beans - and maybe I need to choose a lower carb protein powder.  I see Unjury only has 3g while Big Train has 12g.

I can tell you what I do which is consume primarily protein shakes made with isopure Zerocarb and either unsweetened almond milk (4oz) and water or heavy cream (4oz) and water. I eat a bit of protein between shakes. Either steak or chicken or persian kabobs. All very low carb. I don't do yogurt or milk. Almond milk is basically water soaked almonds and if you get the unsweetened then it's 1 carb per 8oz serving and I do 1.5 servings per day. Do you have myfitnesspal? It keeps good track of your nutrition and can help you see where you can make improvements.

Change your protein powder, for sure. My brand (Dymatize iso-100) only has 1 gram per scoop!

Fage yogurt has 8 grams of carbs rather than 11

The soup is fairly high in carbs for the amount of protein you're getting. I'd do some lunchmeat rolls with cream cheese, tuna salad, or fried cheese. Anything processed like that is going to be tough.

Ditch the beans in your chili.

Use 2% milk, cream, or heavy cream instead of nonfat milk.

Those are all suggestions for cutting carbs in your day. That being said, I didn't count my carbs that closely. I just made sure that I had at least 100 grams of protein if not more and the rest just followed. If you want to cut your carbs, though; you're going to have to really pay attention to every little thing.

I aimed for 50-70 net carbs not total carbs. You can subtract fiber and sugar alcohols grams from total carb grams to get net carbs.

Most of the people keeping theirs between 30-50 are counting net carbs not full carbs.

I do not count net carbs, I count all of them (as an insulin pump dependent diabetic I had no option as they all affected my blood sugar). So I keep mine between 100-130.

But that is full not net carbs.

I'm only 7 weeks post op but I'm sticking to the basics : meats, eggs, cheese, protein shake, yogurt on occasion. I take premier protein shakes. I try to stay away from beans always. They make a no bean chilli out there but it is still a few carbs. It looks like the avocados and chilli were your highest intake of carbs. Have you tried egg drop soup?

For me, I always read the labels now. It takes me hours at the store but I do it. If I don't and I eat something that has slightly too many carbs, my newbie DS body will let me know and it's bathroom time whether there is one nearby or not.

For snacks, I do peanut butter, lunchmeats rolled up with cheese, or some other kind of proteiny thing.

Why are you eating low fat?  You are going to wind up constipated if you are taking enough Calcium.  Eat all the full fat you can find..in yogurt, butter, sour cream, etc...

What I ate today:

Inside only of 2 breakfast sandwiches (sausage, egg, cheese, canadian bacon)

Greek yogurt single serve (this is a treat I only eat once a week. Otherwise I make my own Greek yogurt by adding spenda and SF strawberry jelly

Atkins protein shake

ham and cheese "sandwich" (thick sliced Cheddar Cheese with Thick sliced ham and tons of Mayo)

McD's double quarter pounder with cheese.  Asked for mayo instead of catsup.  No bun

Fried cheese ("French Toast") with splenda and SF syrup

Atkins bar

I will probably have SF hot chocolate made with Heavy Cream and topped with LandOLakes SF whipped topping.

I have no idea what that adds up to but that is a typical day when I am on the road and not at home.

Read the Bites and Vites thread that is posted daily for lots of ideas.

You eat meat, cheese, and eggs.  That's about it!  THEN you can come in way under 30 even.

Why are you eating/drinking skim/nonfat stuff?  Eat the real thing.  There is no reason for your to do low fat.  You don't absorb it.  Out of those 39 gr fat, you absorbed about 7.
