bloating constipation relief from dx 5 medications

well, surgeon appt. went well. he highly suspected severe bloating and constipation is due to the 5 medications i am on all of which cause both symptoms. i went the next day to my other dr and got off all medications. my surgeon recommended only metamucil..no more stool softeners, miralax. i gained 11 lbs in 3 days due to constipation! within 2 days  i lost the weight once the metamucil kicked in and was off the binding medications. i feel so much better. surgeon still wants ct scan (tomorrow) to rule out anything else that could be going on. he was so conservative in his approach this time. surgery is a last option. and coming from  him, i was impressed. it helped having my daughter there.

warning to anyone who has constipation problems and bloating problems. ck. any meds you are on. i never really thought it was a big deal and my gastro dr. was just having me take miralax and 2 stool softeners. it never really worked and i was on so much meds it probably couldnt.

hopefully ct scan will show no problems.

i finally got to order vites from vitalady and cant wait to start. adding more protein and better absorable vitamins will hopefully help with my deficiencies.

this forum is invaluable..i dont know what i would have done without you all. thank you from the bottom of my heart.

im still not feeling great, but i am feeling better now that bowels are moving...its only been 6 months ... thats a long time!

i see the prescribing dr of the meds next week and boy i am really going to let him know to warn his patients,

peace

peace

I'm so glad you getting things sorted out. Just a note...when you start your Vitalady plan, start really slow on the iron if you haven't been taking it. If you do infusions, never mind. ; )

i dont do infusions. my hemaglobin and ferratin levels are in normal range. do you think i should even take the iron? im worried a bit about constipation or is there something else i should know about?

If you go the Proferrin route, you won't have to worry about constipation. If you go with Tender iron (carbonyl), polysccharide or gluconate there's a possibility of constipation but many DSrs don't have that issue. If you buy the cheap ferrous sulfate it can casue constipation and we have trouble absorbing it.

I use a combo of Proferrin and Tender carbonyl irons. I take the carbonyl in the afternoon away from all other vitamins and the Proferrin at bedtime. This has worked for me and my iron serum, hematocrit, hemoglobin and ferritin are all at the top of the range or even a little higher.
