I am 90% complete with my pre-op stuff and only now realizing that people with DS take pills 5-6 times a day. Is there any way around this? I have no problem with twice a day...three times a day will be challenging but 5-6?? Please tell me it ain't so.

I take about 15 pills twice a day.  I've never needed to do more than that.  There are others that do more but I know me.  I have to keep it to the easiest possible routine that works.

I take mine 4 times a day. Morning, lunch, dinner, bedtime. Everybody's different.

I have two different multi vitamins, a Vitamin D, an Iron, and a calcium pill I will be taking... once started full time it will be three pills at breakfast, two at lunch, two at dinner, and one at bed time.

No way that is going to work long term. Have you checked out Vita  Lady's starting plan?  We STRONGLY recommend you start there and then tweak according to your labs.

It is for me but that's because I take calcium all day due to my bones. Otherwise, I'd have a big batch in the AM, an iron batch in the afternoon and a batch with dinner.  Lots of pills but in batches.

Yep, I do 5 times a day, plus 2 night time batches of liquid iron when I get up to use the bathroom.

I'd start with the 90 day Vitalady prepackaged vites which are 4 times a day and then tweak after you've had your 3 month labs.

I do it several times a day, every hour or so through the morning.  I'm done by lunchtime.  It's not a big deal.  Some vitamins don't absorb well when taken together, otherwise I'd swallow the whole handful at once.

Does the DS turn you into a pill popper?

- Yes

I know a few DSers that are healthy and only take vitamins 2x per day but they are a rarity.  Most take them about 4 times, from what I can tell.  Don't go into surgery with the mindset that you'll be one of the ones that takes them two times.  If it works out, great.  If it doesn't. you need to be willing to change.  Lots of things are going to change and I think it's best to go in with the mindset that you will do anything necessary to become healthier after surgery because that's the point of doing it in the first place.  There is no rationale for having a surgery to decrease obesity but just trade those obesity-related issues for vitamin deficiency related issues.

Go into surgery with the can-do, will-do attitude.

"I will do anything necessary for my health."

You'll adapt. :)

Most of us do take various vitamins several times daily. But you know what? You get into a routine and it becomes second nature. It is a very, very small price to pay for a bariatric surgery that actually works longterm, allows for an excellent quality of life, and restores your health.
