My incision got an infection about 2 weeks out.  I noticed that it started to weep thick, cloudy stuff and then holes opened up where it was previously closed, and more of it was open then closed.  It looked like Swiss cheese.  It didn't hurt too much on it's own (since it was draining well), but I felt like death warmed over for weeks.  I am just turning the corner on it at 5 weeks, and I have been on the strongest antibiotic available in pill form - at the highest dose.

I went the emergency room twice, and  to my PCP twice.  I never went back to the surgeon because he was 8 hours away - and frankly knew I would better care from my own doctor and surgeons at my local medical group.  I didn't have to open it up - it was already doing that on it's own.  But I am amazed at how weak and bad I have felt while trying to fight this infection.
