There are four forms of WLS, and the LapBand's the one with the worst track record. It has the lowest average amount of weight lost, and the highest rate of complications. I suggest you do some reading on the Sleeve forum, here:http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/vsg/

The good news - you have plenty of time to research ALL the methods of wls before that appointment. For really good info on the DS, read at dsfacts.com.

More good news - you are in NYC, so you have an excellent Ds surgeon nearby - Dr. Roslin at Lennox Hill.

The bad news - you are interested in the lap band, which has the worst success rate of any wls and the highest rate or reoperation of any wls. Further bad news, you are apparently seeing a surgeon who offers the lap band. A surgeon who does not offer a particular method of wls, such as the DS, isn't going to recommend it for you. He or she will recommend the operation he/she knows how to do. Remember, YOU are the one who will live with the results and side effects, not the surgeon.

The Ds has the highest success rate, and the highest percentage excess weight loss of any wls presently available. It also has the best maintainence of that weight loss (so important!) and the best resolution of almost all comorbidities. Before you set your mind on any surgery, read everything you can about ALL the wls to make an informed decision. Don't count on or expect anyone else to know what's best for you, you need to do your own research and make your own decision.

Had a LapBand for about 18 months.  Lost some weight, gained more.  More trouble than it's worth IMO.  Created a lot of scar tissue,  caused acid reflux and many other problems.  I had no restriction b/c I wasn't able to have it filled or I would toss my cookies.  I lived on milk shakes, soups & yogurt.  Please research & consider carefully before making your decision.  Have you looked @ the VSG?

Roses,

There must be a reason why you are posting ut wanting a lapband on the DS site. Please, please, please....so your research before you get the lapband done. I have had my band for almost 6 years, lost approx 20 lbs. I did not want anyone cutting me, I wanted the least invasive, blah, blah blah blah blah. Get it done right the first time. I have to get it done the second time. But at least I get a second time. My revision from band to DS is 1/24/13. Even though I  not know how much I will lose with the DS it doesnt matter, I need to get this band out with as much problems as it gives me all these years. Please, look at the Regrets board, failed weight loss board, and even the lapband board. Go ask on the lapband board....us revisioners are not scared to post there.....the banders hate us....it worked for them....I hate my band. I hate it! Good luck to you Roses....pm me if you need to...I'm here for anyone who wants to discuss that one!!!!

Thank u for the information. I will definitely look into the sleeve. Wow, I've learned so much already being on this site about the lap band I really don't want all those problems sheesh....for me I guess the idea of having it was that it would always be inside u and it can be adjusted at anytime, so I thought that would be great. Now, I'm hearing that so many ppl have had so many issues and of course everyone is an individual and everybody body is different and so is there doctors. But I can understand the disappointment.
