4.5 months without vitamins??????  Seriously????  And you trust you trust your doctor?  What about your NUT?  Do you have a slow death wish?  Do YOU know anything about proper nutrition and vitamins?

I started vitamins before I ever left the hospital, received samples prior to surgery during a full day of nutrition and meal planning sessions required by my Dr. AND my NUT visited me in the hospital twice!

I'd say BEWARE of this doctor!!!!!!

P.S.  My one year labs were 100% perfect.....no problems at all.  Have you had you had your labs yet?

While I do thank all of you for your concern I don't understand your failure to comprehend.  I said in my original post that I am starting the vitamins.  I said in my original post that I trust my doctor.  I said in my original post that my doctor has been monitoring my blood work, I said in my original post that I lived to tell the tale so obviously no harm was done.  I truly would appreciate it if you folk would lay off the semi-insulting comments.  I value your input but seeing as I know none of you personally why would I at this stage say 'well my trained and educated doctor is loony but these people who I don't know and have never met now they are on the ball?'

It may come to that point but we aren't there yet.

So advice is appreciated but realize that it's my decision to, if, when, and to what degree to follow any offered advice.

If you're pleased with the pre and post surgery education you've received from your doctor then I'm happy for YOU!  However, it is NOT the norm for ANY WLS and to mislead a newbie or anyone considering surgery would be a disservice to them.

You are only 4.5 months out and "these" people who you have never met and are now on the ball" have "been there, done that" before you ever heard of the DS.  They've lived the DS and learned the hard way what malnutrition can do to your body.  Damage is done before you or your doctor can see the harm. I've learned to listen to the Vets.  Can't do any harm, especially when it comes to keeping my body healthy which is everyone's ultimate goal after undergoing a life changing surgery.  I had near death complications with my 1st WLS.....I don't want to go there with my second.

Your surgeon does have a good rep---as a SURGEON, one who cuts and sews. He does NOT have a good rep for aftercare. Most surgeons don't know much about nutrition, and why should they? That's not their function.

A LOT of the vets here had surgeons who knew little about nutrition, and so gave some bad advice. The lucky ones either listed to older vets and/or did their own nutritional research. The unlucky ones listened to their surgeons, got in trouble, and had to fight their way back---which is why they're telling you the things they're telling you.

I'm not sure exactly where I fall on that line---my surgeon admitted that he didn't know a lot about nutrition, so he had a nutritionist on staff. (Pretty unusual back 9 years ago when I had my DS.) Unfortunately, she didn't know much about post-DS nutrition, either. Fortunately for me, I had the vets you where then here at OH to help me find my way t what works for me.
