Questions regarding Dr. Elariny in Virginia
I am hoping beyond hope that this year I will finally get a new life! I have put off having WLS over the past 10 yrs and I'm DONE giving up because of fear! That being said, I have found a surgeon and wanted some input on him. I've read that he has 0% of mortality rate so I am relived with that. Has anyone on here heard of him? What's his reputation on success stories? Does he have a low complication rate? This is my biggest fear of having complications. I know it's a very unlikely that I might have any to no complications but I'm always thinking I will be the 1%, just my luck type of complications. I also realize that I will have to do the darn 3 to 6 months of supervised diet with my physician. So I'm working on that! I need some friends to help me along. My mind is set. I have gone over this thing of "should I, or shouldn't I' and I'm through with that. Thanks guys for any info you can give me on this Dr. I really appreciate it!

Brandy, my Angel (Majormom) had the DS with him and loves him! There are several others but she is the one that comes to mind. I will point her to this thread.

My physician supervised diet was with a specialist in Chicago, but I supplemented his teaching with weigh****chers, and lost 55 pounds in 5 months. The results I was getting with Weigh****chers helped to spur me on in regards to not procrastinating with surgery any more. I had been putting it off for the last many years, too, due to fear of failure (or maybe fear of success??). Weigh****chers also taught me portion control and how to eat more healthy, which was desperately needed. Good luck.
Hi Brandy,
I just got back home from support group run by Dr Elariny's dietitian. Dr E. is an awesome surgeon and well respected in the field. I have been around his practice, and on his patients' forums and boards for about 5 years, and haven't run across anyone with surgery related complications. He does charge more than insurance covers but I think he's worth it.
Wishing good luck. Please keep us posted on how you're coming along.
