Can this surgery be done first? Or is this done after other bariatric surgies have been done? I am about 263 and want to get down to 150 pounds.

The DS is a standard of care bariatric operation, NOT just a rescue operation for people who have failed other surgeries...though we are certainly seeing more and more people wanting revisions from other surgeries all the time. In fact, your best bet is to get it done "first" so that the first operation is also the last operation.

YES...and it's best if done first and not as a revision.

I am a virgin DS'er (NO other WLS ever) and I am glad I did.

As we say, think twice CUT ONCE!

Good luck in your learning. A good place to read about the ds is here. DSFacts

The only reason this would be a 2nd surgery is if the person didn't know about it the first time.  The same criteria applies to qualify for the DS, so come on in.  Also, if you've not found it yet, check out dsfacts.com

My surgeon specifically wanted to two-step the procedure -- to first have a VSG and then do the DS.  It would depend on a person's BMI and co-morbidities.

Have you had the second half yet?

I hate that when that happens.  Because the "magic" of the DS is the combination of the metabolic changes, the reduced capacity AND the malabsorption when they all happen together.  It is like 1+1+1=100000

Getting a VSG and then the switch is like comparing apples to oranges.  It is not the same thing.
