AN UPDATE AND A QUESTION
Hi everyone. I have not posted to the forum for awhile cause I get most of the questions I have answered just by reading everybodys posts.
My current weight is 408. Down from 445 after the surgery.
I was just want to let everyone know of my current progress. I had a panniculectomy ( excess skin removal) and hernia repair on December 12,2012 with Dr. Gary Anthone out of Methodist hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a great doctor. I like him very much.
I'm hoping based on what his assistant has told me that after I see him on January 7, 2013 I will be able to roll right into the ds surgery in Feb. She told me it would be a good idea because I am healing well now and already have a good mind set about the ds surgery.
I told her I would like to get it done while I am in a recovery mode rather than get healed up from this and then have to wait 12 or more weeks then go right back to recovery.
Do y'all think this is a good idea ?
I am also curious, I have read where many of you have had little pleasure in what you eat. I am noticing that while I do have an appetite that nothing seems to taste the same or as good as it did.
I know that part of this is normal and will be happy to not regain back my full measure of appetite after the ds surgery but I hope that at least what I do eat will taste good and offer some satisfaction.
If it does not I guess that is alright I would rather have to eat to live than be eating myself to death like I was before.
I don't know what to tell you about the recovery + DS surgery question. I guess go by what Dr A tells you, but I do understand your rationale for wanting to get all the surgery done so recovery will over sooner.
The familiar tastes of most foods returns once the ketosis and rapid weight loss period ends. Don't worry, you will be able to enjoy a little of everything after that period is over. Concentrate on getting the weight off as quickly as you can the first couple of years then you can experiment and add some favorites back in--in moderation.

I, too, have an appointment with Dr. Anthone on Monday - maybe I'll see you there :) I totally love him and his staff. They are supportive and responsive and very kind. They won't steer you wrong on what they think you need to have done and when it should be done. They have a lot of experience of those who went before you.
I am totally one of those people who doesn't get much pleasure out of anything I eat. My tastes are really changing and I find bolder flavors tend to serve me better. Meat holds little appeal to me, and I always was a huge meat eater. Now I'm opting for other protein sources - in the past I wouldn't have touched a bean, and now I find I like them.
It's totally a learning experience - fun, scary, frustrating, and exhilirating.
I don't know if you live in the area, but if you need someone to talk to, or go to a support group meeting with, let me know. You can email me at [email protected]
Hey there, I'm 7 weeks out, and can really only answer your food question. When I started eating regular, softer food again, my taste buds enjoyed every single bite! I still want everything I ate before, but at a very diminished level, and I think that's mostly because I remember how good everything was. My stomach doesn't always agree, though, and I'm not really sad when something i used to like doesn't sit well, because I'd rather not eat that food than be throwing up after one bite. I don't get hungry, but if I don't eat on time or pu**** back even a little, my stomach hurts a little. I get head cravings hardcore, but I take the time to reevaluate them before I act on them, and that works for me. I actually like meat a little more, though, but after a couple of days I switch to tofu because just the sight of meat makes me sick. Once I eat a little of anything, all cravings for food stop until the next meal, and sometimes it's hard to finish what I've set on my plate, as little as it is. Hope this helps.
