Finger nail polish vs. Surgery HELP!
Ok so I have somewhat of a stupid question... I have surgery on the 7th of this month... so in like 6 more wake ups. My daughter has "made mommy pretty" by painting my finger nails for surgery. However, I was told by a friend today that I'll have to take off the polish before I go in. That broke my little girls heart... does anyone know if that is true? Do I really have to remove the finger nail polish before I go into surgery?
I was told for surgery (I've had 3 since my DS) to remove all nail polish. The chance is that it could flake...they want you scrubbed clean!
Why not save the nail polish til the night before and then sit your daughter down and explain that removing it is not what you want but has to be done to keep you healthy. Tell her that she can repaint them after you have surgery to help you feel better.

Excellent way to handle the situation.

Check with your Dr. They told me no fingernail polish. I had my toes painted and they didn't say anything about that. It's for the pulse ox monitor they stick on your finger... they will check you about a million times while you are there. lol!
After checking with the Dr, have her paint your toenails. Put pretty stickers on them... make it an ordeal for her. My girls are the same way. Toenails are more fun to do anyway!
I have surgery on the 9th and received a pamphlet telling me all nail polish had to be removed from both fingers and toes. Like someone else mentioned it's because your nail bed is one of the best places to detect cyanosis caused by low oxygen levels. Good luck with your surgery!!! :)
