I'm having my surgery in Feb. and I'm trying to prepare myself as best I can for the "roller coaster" that everyone keeps telling me about. I'm a young mom with limited time, but would like to read some helpful things before and during the recovery to help with the transition. There are SO many out there. Can any one make any suggestions as to what has helped them the most, if they have found a book that is helpful?
Thank you.

There aren't many publications out there for general reading.  Most of the WLS books are RNY centric and that's not you.  Probably hanging out on the boards is the best thing you can do.

Thanks for replying!! Seems that is the consensus. My Dr recommended : Mindless Eating, Eating the Moment, and Why cant I stop eating...I might check into those for reasons why i feel like I need to eat...Im nervous for the pre op diet and how that will effect me emotionally!

Chances are for quite a while after surgery your challenge will be to eat enough. Mindless eating - or just munching all the time is an ok DS activity if you choose the right foods (protein snacks instead of carb snacks.)  Many DSers often feel like they have to eat constantly because they can only eat small amounts at a time.  My point is that those books are not DS oriented, so watch out.  The best reading you could do would be to read the back posts on this board.  There are years and years of back posts on the DS board - definitely enough to keep you busy for a long time.

Hi, I have been going through the process of getting approved for surgery.  I too have looked for publications on DS but have not found any.  This forum by far has been the best thing that could ever happen to someone who is looking for guidance before and after surgery.  Like I said, I'm down to my last doctor's appt before my case will be submitted for approval.  I have found this forum to be really all that I study.  The people here are so forth coming with information that I don't think you could get better information from a book.

Thanks for your advice! My Doctors office had a bunch to offer...I think Ill see if my library has any cause I don't want to spend the money on them and stick with the websites for the most help. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

The most up to date info I can think of about the DS is on dsfacts.com
