Suggestions for a Road Trip

This will be my first road trip since surgery.  I will be a little over 5 months.

I would like suggestions for how to carry what etc.  Any nifty easy ideas of carrying perishables.

I am going to get one of those small ice chests and make up tuna the night before the Big drive, I will be able to eat on it all day.  The next day, I will have a smaller drive.  I'm planning on making my protein shakes that morning and putting them in the ice chest.  I will have Nut Thins and peanut butter and cheese.

Anything else recommended?

I do have my Road ID (thank you Danni).  My dog will be with me.

How about cheese sticks and jerky, or a few protein bars?

Cheese sticks still don't sit well.. Jerky is a good idea... I haven't tried jerky or protein bars since surgery.  Which kind of protein bars are good for us?

I've been eating JayRobb protein bars lately. There are 3 flavors and Vitamin Shoppe carries them.

some great ideas - also consider boiled eggs, pepperettes, deli meat

I also like the small tins of flavoured tuna with the pop off lids.  They travel well and carry a lot of protein

nuts and trail mix are great for snacking on the road

and bring lots of water, or a reusable bottle that you can fill up at each rest stop

I always carry a bag of those Blue Diamond almonds in my car for emergencies.   I'm not a shake expert, so you might want to check on this, but I remember reading that you shouldn't make shakes up in advance....

JG,

I checked with Unjury.  It is fine to mix up the shakes the day before.  They will keep 2-3 days if refrigerated.  I currently make up 2 days worth at a time.  Love Unjury!

Road trips are easy.  You can find food at any convenience store.  They all have protein bars, nuts, and jerky.  Truck stops are great for DSers.  Many have a breakfast buffet where you can load up on eggs, sausage, bacon, and cheese.  Fast food is no problem either.  I always order the egg McMuffin without the bread or a lettuce Whopper.  Wendy's and Taco Bell are easy too and if there's a KFC handy you're golden.  Seriously, much better than a two day old protein shake!  Enjoy!
