I am 2 months out and have to be so careful what I eat or i immediately get diarreah.  I want to take something to stop it but I don't know if it will cause any harm.

Have any of you had to take anything and does this go away????

Thanks,

Esther

I always carried Imodium with me for the first year or so.  I never had any ill effects from it and it worked just fine.

I wonder if you have been checked for CDIFF?  Have you been to the doc?

Thank you for responding, I feel better knowing there is hope.  I had complications but they have been resolved.  What is CDIFF?

I have been put back in the hospital twice but I feel good now.  I am just sick of the diarreah.  I will go buy some imodium today.

Thanks for your help.

Hugs, Esther

Clostridium Difficile.  Google and read.  You may need to be tested.

I do think quite a few of us had diarrhea for a while.  And it does go away.

The more calcium I take the more solid my stools are.

As Patty said getting tested for C-diff is important.  Then you want to try eliminating things like lactose, gluten, sweeteners,  magnesium oxide.... you have to read, read, read, food labels. For me Pepto Bismo works better than imodium, plus you may get the extra benefit of less stinky gas.

My problem is more gas then diarreah, and the minute I eat, I have to run to the bathroom. They tested my stool and there wasn't any bacteria. I am scared to eat anything.

I'll try pepto bismo, I'm desperate!

If you've recently been on antibiotics, then you need to get some new bugs in your digestive system.  I get great results from some daily yogurt, however others take probiotic pills to get a daily megadose.  C-diff, if I am correct, is an infection of the bad bacteria, which can get out of hand if not balanced out by the good bugs.

Otherwise, if you think it's just a healing thing - Immodium

I'm taking probiotic pills but they don't do anything for me. I do need to eat more yogurt and hopefully that will do the trick!

Primal Defense Ultra is the probiotic many DSers use - I've not yet needed one and my mindset is, if aint broke don't fix it, so can't advise on a personal level.

Flagyl may be another option if probiotics and an elimination diet don't help, but check with your PCP or kick off a thread about it as I'm struggling to find much about it (I've been pretty fortunate thus far so have no personal experience with either of these).
