Can't go to the bathroom
Well,
The doctor said my labs are perfect
everything protein and vitamin
I have a real bad bacterial infection though and started taking flagyl and now for about 5 days I haven't been able to go number 2
I don't even feel like going
I have went from a size 4 to a size 12 in jeans even though I am loosing weight, I am about 125 pounds
my tummy is really big and sometimes I think the cure is worse than the disease, it made me really sick for the first few days, I have been bed ridden for about 3 weeks.
the doctor said I must have had the infection for over a year
any advice on what I could take to go?
I am also on hydrocodone for pain management but have not ever had this problem till the flagyl
anyone ever had this problem
any help would be appreciated
I'd go with the big guns

You might find it at Vitamin Shoppe or whole foods or a health food store. Take it at the midpoint between antibiotic doses.
also I'd start taking a dose of Miralax per day, then at some point you maybe able to lessen the amount

Have you tried an enema?
To add onto my original post .. probiotics are very individual. I truly believe we have have "one true" probiotic. A lot of times people will try them and think, "this does nothing!" and it may be true for them. If they try another, they may find the same thing. I went through several before I found that clicked for my body.
The Florastor recommendation comes from a friend who had a similar reaction to Flagyl and have the large distended stomach. After a couple doses of the Florastor it was completely gone.
The PDU recommendation comes from a large portion of the DS'ers who've had excellent results with it.
I personally take Florajen3 and a separate Saccharomyces Boulardii + MOS.
I've tried PDU, Align, and a few others with no good results.
Also, it's very subjective to say "results" because for me, what this means is that things just run smoother. I have less overall gas and my system is more tolerant. If my stomach is little more cranky than normal I'll take another probiotic and feel a little better. But in the end it's going to be an experiment. I do highly recommend taking them daily and long-term and not just when you take antibiotics. We have a short system and things need to be kept in balance.

Hi Karla,
I feel for you going through this.
Before surgery, I had a lot of Colon issues (hospitalized 8 times in a year). I lived on Flagyl and sometimes pain meds. Flagyl just makes a person feel bad. I am not a Dr, but most Dr's will tell you, the pain meds keep a person stopped up.
ITA, with everyone in regards to the ProBiotics. Take 2 a day, and take them between Flagyl doses. I was on 3 Flagyl does a day at times. Use the Probiotics 2 hrs after you take the Flagyl.
As for helping you go, Renew Life is the brand to turn to. I bought her book when she first started. This woman knows her stuff!
2 things I will say helped me (I don't have to worry now though LOL!). Marshmallow Root by Nature's Way. Take about 5 pills at night with as much water as you can get down. Do that each night until you are totally unstopped.
Then there are several tea's out there that work. I always used Smooth Move. However, my BFF uses a green tea w/Senna.
I don't know if you went to your regular Dr or a Gastro. I am hear to tell you, you could not have lived a year with this infection. The pain gets too intense. I would say "find a Gastroenterologist" , try to find one who understands the DS (I realize this is hard). I was lucky in finding one who cares.
Last resort... Get a small tub of sour cream, make your favorite dip and eat it all at once w/some Nut Thins. That much fat at once will start things moving.
Best of luck to you!
