Flinstones
That's older than dirt nutritional advice. If you aren't having trouble taking capsules you can start taking your vitamins like an adult. The Flintstones advice was from the idea that a vitamin pill might get stuck in a new swollen pouch. We don't have a pouch but we could have a swollen sleeve immediately post-op. I never took Fintstones because they hurt my teeth to chew. lol My dietitian said to start with a capsule or very small pills and see how I did.
I would also take a look at www.vitalady.com for her basic starter DS plan, find the capsule version and under the tongue sublingual form and start working up to the plan. Perhaps start as your nutritionist suggests with 2 multivitamin capsules a day, 4 calcium citrate capsules, and her dry vitamin D3, but start adding to the basic Vitalady plan as you can.

no, No, NO NO NO NO NO - I'm so glad you asked instead of taking this as a valid professional opinion.
That is the worst advice ever. Do NOT go to that nutritionist again. That advice isn't even good for RNY patients.

All of the long term successful DSers I have seen take multiple handfuls of vitamins throughout the day. Start with the vitalady plan and tweak according to labs. Flintstones are for 4 year olds. Most surgeons offices give very bad, very inadequate nutritional and vitamin plans for DSers. It is good that you asked. What have they told you to eat?
When I asked about Flintstones as a pre-op, the nice people at my surgeons' office laughed about that. And that was 7 years ago! Sheesh, the nut you saw must not have read anything since the Carter administration.
You need real, regular adult multivits.
And one little calcium - forget it! You need calcium citrate (NOT carbonate, real the labels carefully), at least 2000 me daily total, in divided doses, 500 mg at a time. And keep in mind that depending on what product you buy, a "dose" might be 2 pills, not just one, so again, read the label.
And D - you will lose your bones with her advice. You need the "dry" D that Vitalady sells, 50,000 units per capsule. Taking the doses that normal people take from the drug store, usually 5,000 mg, will get you nowhere. Well actually, it will get you into trouble with low vitamin D, but you don't want that. Keep in mind also that the prescription vitamin D, which sounds good because it's also 50,000 units, is USELESS for us because it's packaged in oil, and we don't absorb oil well.
All in all, yet another clueless nutritionist. They just don't understand the DS and that's all there is to it, but this one gave you crappy advice even for gastric bypass.

Strange that a nut would recommend flintstone vitamins. But, (and I may get beaten up by this) perhaps it is very early after your surgery and you can't tolerate swallowing a capsule or taking a larger multi? It's hard to take all the recommended vits and protein and water, etc in the beginning. Maybe this was a "better than nothing" approach for the short run.
I took a liquid vitamin for a while early on until I could no longer gag it down. I had to work my way up to taking all my calcium. I haven't seen anyone jump on Vitalady's plan the day after surgery, but we all know to work towards it as quickly as possible.
If its really early out after your surgery, something is better than nothing, but you always need to be working up to Vitalady's plan, and there are no Flintstones in that plan!
