What questions to ask my doctor before my surgery ??

I should be getting a call from the doctors office this week to set up my surgery date for next month! YAY!!!!!!

I have only met with the Dr once before. When I see him again I want to ask more question so I know I am making the right choice in surgery and dr. What are the best questions to ask?

I would appreciate any info.

First of all, hopefully you've selected a doc that actually does the DS.  Fortunately.CA is rich with them.  If you're not certain, check the list on dsfacts.com.  Now, if this surgeon is NOT on the list, ask:

Does he do the DS?

How many has he done?

Who did he learn from?

Also if they have a support group for after the surgery?

What kind of schedule will you be on for food: liquids, puree, mushy, regular foods?

What to expect after the surgery, ie. leaking, pain (and what you can take for it)? 

If you are on any meds now will you be able to take them after the surgery?

Ask to speak to former patients too. Ask questions about the surgeons complication and mortality rates also.
