Question about Milk

I was lactose intolerant as a pre-op, and even more immediately post-op, but I did one thing that helped:  I switched to whey protein isolate, on the advice of my surgeon. Regular whey protein put me back in the hospital due to dehydration.  I use whole milk and add heavy cream in my shakes. I use milk and add heavy cream to my cold cereal.  Kashi in the red box has 13 g of protein per serving, and great fiber!  I have been eating this cereal since the time you could only find it in health food stores.  I think Kellogg's bought it, and that led to wider distribution. They even have great steam bag meals and frozen dinners! I also use it as my "crunchy" snack.

Wonderful stuff,  * but* if you are not in maintenance yet, use it sparingly. 30g carbohydrates, but...they are considered complex carbs!

Mashed potatoes made with heavy cream are to die for!

I had to use Lactaid milk for several years post op.  In the last year or two, I have been using regular milk without the gas issues I used to have.  I make a latte almost every morning :-)

Best wishes,

Sharon

4 yrs out and I still use Lactaid, but I really like it.  They even make it in chocolate.  Yum.  My hubby likes it, too, and he's not lactose intolerant.  Lactaid also makes cottage cheese and ice cream.
