How much is a sip? I'm so nervous to overdue it that my sips are just enough to wet the inside of my mouth... I sipped through out the night but it i only consumed about 4 oz. should I be taking bigger sips? If not this is going to be challenging. Another question...my right thigh is numb... Is that normal? It's been numb since yesterday.

Surgery went well and I was sent home yesterday.... Jello and juice went down just fine.. Went home on a full liquid diet... That means ill be drinking shakes and eating yogurt... Lol

Banded on 7/1/09,cool removed on 11/11... Switched on 2/5/13. Ticker includes 23lbs lost on preop diet...

Glad to hear you are home and doing well! I have no answers to your questions unfortunately, I'm sure vets will chime in soon enough :)

I was afraid to take big sips too because I was worried I would throw it up.  However,  once I got over that fear I could actually take a nice big swallow no problem.   I also could take them close together.  Good luck

I am almost 7 weeks out...I took drinks not sips.  That tripped me up at first too.  Your body will let you know what you can handle.  My right pinky toe was numb for about 4 weeks...I then had a hernia and had to have it repaired, after that surgery my left pinky toe is now numb...that is really weird.  I don't know if it's normal but if your whole thigh is numb I'd check with your doc :)  Other than that good luck and just keep on trucking through...the first few weeks are a big adjustment...heck, I'm still getting my feet on the ground so to speak.

I learned that a big swallow was too much.  It hurt.  So I adjusted the swallow down.  Now at 6 weeks, I can drink average amounts.   And I did get in my 64 oz in a day starting when I was taken off the IV.  Just line it up so you can see it and keep drinking.

My right thigh was numb after surgery.  Still is some what.  But I really noticed it the first 2 weeks.  When I had my appendectomy  years ago, the same thing happened.  I think my back was bruised and I have a pinched nerve from the surgery.  My back doesn't hurt, but the numb leg will start to ache if I get too much exercise in.  It eventually goes away.  Feeling does come back.

Good luck with your DS.  I hope your healing is uneventful, and speedy.  It is wonderful after you get back on your feet.

Did you have an epidural? I know that my surgeon did one, and that caused me some lower numbness for a bit. The answer to your question: do what feels right. If it feels like it's too much, then it is. You may even find yourself throwing up more than usual at first, if you aren't quick to know when you are full. Just go slow. Your new body will tell you when it's had enough!

Congratz on your surgery, hope your recovery is quick.

I found warm drinks went down easier. I liked protein beef broth packets, and tea. I still like warm mint tea for extra hydration. Be sure to walk every few hours for circulation to prevent clots. The surgery tables are very hard, hours of surgery may have caused your numb leg. Walking should help. Do tell your surgeon's office about the numbness. Hopefully its not a clot.  I still use 3-4 shakes or fruit protein drinks a day to reach my protein goal of 150 g. or more, along with protein snacks and tiny meals. I can drink just like I did pre surgery, many gulps at a time. In the beginning, I could hardly swallow, my throat was so swollen from the intubation. You can drink your yogurt, add heavy cream, it has no carbs. Milk has too many carbs.

My rule of thumb is,  a sip is whatever feels comfortable in your mouth.  usually a sip roughly equals an oz in my experience.  If you have a full mouth sensation and a huge swallow that's a gulp.  I assume your not like Louis Armstrong, having massive cheeks.

Cold drink**** my stomach like a brick. But everyday it got better. I am 10 days out and taking pretty big gulps. Work at it gradually. You need to stay hydrated
