Will a DS revision help manage diabetes?
Hello Friends , Let me give you a little background. I had a very sucsessful DS in 2004. I lost 200lbs and my dependence on insulin. I didn't even need metformin until last April. I have had some issues with anemia but I have a hemotologist who keeps an eye on that. My current issue is my blood sugar is starting to rise even with glucophage. Has anyone had this experience? Is there a surgical solution I could investigate or am i doomed to a life of diabetic meds and restrictions?. Any info you have or reference material you could point me toward would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lisa
I don't know the answer to your question, or even what kind of revision you might be thinking of. You could contact Dr. Gagner and ask - he's in Montreal these days, and he does do revisions.
The DS provides permanent resolution of diabetes in up to 98% of people, but even that isn't 100%. the longer someone has had type 2 diabetes, and the more severe, the less chance for resolution. It sounds like the DS has helped you greatly, but that you still fall into the small group of people who could not achieve permanent resolution of their diabetes.
Email Dr. Gagner. You have nothing to lose by asking.

I had a RNY to DS conversion. My diabetes is better but I still need insulin each day. I would say if you already had a DS that revision would not help but definitely this is a question for your doctors. Best of luck, Terri
