Help I'm sick

So, it's that time of year, I have a sore throat and congestion, etc.  Having trouble sleeping since I'm all stuffy.

Does anyone have any kind of sensitivity to cold medications?  Just wondered, I know my doctor told me I would be sensitive to alcohol, so I was a little worried about cold medicine knocking me out.

I'll take any advice, I'm hoping to get some sleep tonight, but prefer to be able to wake up clear headed in the morning for work.

I've taken Nyquil and DayQuil with no problem. I hope you feel better.

You can get syrup that doesn't have alcohol in it.  Ask your pharmacist.  I also swear by cold fx.  I know there is debate as to whether or not it works but I know it helps me cut my sick time in half.  Its just american ginseng so shouldn't have side effects...

Good luck and feel better soon

Consider calling in sick so you don't expose others.  Up your vitamin C and zinc.  If you go to work take tissues and a trash bag to put them in and hand sanitizer and use it all the time.  Hope you feel better soon.

I wish I could call in sick, but the time off for my DS put me at a negative balance on my time off, and if I miss work it will be without pay.  I'm so negative on PTO I won't have a paid day off until March.  My boss made an exception to allow me to go that negative, normally we aren't allowed to start the new year that way, but because it was medical in nature she let me borrow more than usual.  I would be OK with not being paid, but that counts against us severely on our annual reviews.

I'm upping my zinc now.  Bought Dayquil, it's making me sleepy but it's helped a bit.  :-)

Understand the PTO deficit.  Keep taking care of yourself and feel better soon.

Whenever I feel like maybe a cold is coming on, I take 3,000 of C.  Doing this my husband and I haven't had a cold in (hold on to your hair) almost 30 years.  We read a paper my Linus Pauling decades ago on the benefits of Vitamin C and how it could even cure cancer (I'm a skeptic of that claim).  Since then, we've stopped taking C on a daily basis.  That's the key.  If you take it every single day, it won't work as well when you use it to slam a cold out of your system.

But you have to take the C at the FIRST SIGN of a cold, in order to avoid getting sick.  It works, like I said, I haven't been sick in years.  But you have to read up on how to find your C maximum dosage.  When you hit your max, you get diahrrea.  You don't want that.  You want to take a dose just shy of that dose.  That's your maximum C dosage.  The stronger the virus or bacteria, the higher your maximum will be.

Google Linus Pauling and his vitamin C theory.

I swear by Dayquil and Nyquil but I do have to take smaller doses closer together instead of one larger dose because it makes me a little loopy when I do that.
