Coffee

I started using decaf beans post-op, as coffee is a key ingredient to one of my favorite shakes.

I buy the beans, then I grind them at home when I'm ready to make coffee.  Coffee grinders are relatively inexpensive now, and some coffeemakers come with grinders built-in.   The taste is much better and fresher than pre-ground, canned coffee, and you can devise your own special blend when you bag up the beans at the supermarket. You can make it full caff, half-caff or decaf.

I am new but it seems to me that getting back into drinking the sweetened coffee and soda's is a recipe for failure or at least not as much success as we would like. I used to drink coffee at work etc. now I do herbal tea's. Peppermint, lemon etc. try lemon water too which can be hot or cold. Stay away from the old habits for ultimate success.

I was not a coffee drinker pre-DS at all. After surgery, I found that coffee was a great (and for me, the only tolerable method) of getting my protein shakes in.  I never experienced any shakes or side effects from it.

Today, 2.5 months Post Op, I drink two protein coffees a day with 40g of protein in each one.  I am not a meat lover so it is my primary source of protein.  I love my protein shakes and look forward to them every day, winter and summer, all year.  Maybe I am just a little addicted to the coffee now but it works for me...
