Coffee

As you all know, I'm a newbie.. (Aug 1,2012)

I've just started drinking coffee again (which I love)... Some days though... It gives me the shakes... At work, we do not have decaf.

Is this normal?

Thanks!

I think it was normal for me when I first started drinking it again. Your body will likely get used to it again and you'll be fine.

Now you must decide if you really want to invite that monkey on to your back again.  You're caffeine -free.  It's a horrible habit to kick, and with the help of morphine you've succeeded.  If you enjoy full-leaded coffee again, it won't be long before you're attaching the IV to a camel pack of it soon.  At least, that's me with diet coke.

Val, you are so right!  The good thing is that I usually only drink it on the weekends for my 12 hr shifts, I add protein to it so I get 21 grams out of it.  Yesterday, was not a normal day, just grabbed a cup at work (filling in last minute).  It did kind of scare me.  That's how much I was shaking.

I refuse to get on the Diet Drink habit again.  I have had Coke Zero just a few times in the last couple of weeks.  I can walk away from coffee but not Diet Coke or Coke Zero.  Strange how that is?!

I love coffee too. Before the surgery I could only drink a Starbucks Iced Venti Americano (lots of shots of espresso). Now since the surgery I can have one cup of hot coffee and that is it. My old Starbucks drink I can't tolerate. In the end it is good because I am having a bunch less  caffeine

now since I no longer have diet soda either. Bye, Terri

Yes, caffeine is a stimulant.

Post DS, I slowly got back onto the coffee wagon, but I usually only drink one or two cups a day.  With lots of cream to buffer the coffee.

Best wishes,

Sharon

I couldnt drink coffee until about 6 months out. I used to have two cups every morning....now, I can only have one. I almost always have my protein bar with my coffee to help offset the shakiness/dizziness. The shakes are less and less. I might add, I have many non-DS friends who complain of getting dizzy if they dont eat before having their coffee.

Thanks everyone.  It was odd, I didn't drink coffee in my 20's because that's how my body would react.  Then in my middle 30's, started drinking Latte's and was fine... It was very weird yesterday!
