Awesome! This is quite reassuring! I get that about the work hours... I'm in back to back meetings and my second biggest fear is the bathroom and possible smell issues while at work. It sounds like what we eat plays a huge part in that and I love hearing that things will normalize after the first two months.

Phew!

I keep a strong air freshner in my purse.  I had to go to a committee meeting 8 days post-op.  I was sooooo paranoid!!!  I did have to go once while I was there...  small bathroom in a very small closed off office building...

I have this small can of the stuff you put in those automatic sprayers.  Fresh Linen scent.
2 squirts... No problems...

For me what I eat really does affect gas. I can't touch flour (even breaded chicken) or dark chocolate (maybe it's OK in moderation, but 4 squares were too much for me).

You need to try and stick to Atkins as best you can. I'm doing a relaxed Atkins as I have quite a lot of strawberries or blackberries when I have my full fat Greek yogurt, etc, and so far I've got away with not being perfect.

I've not tried touching milk yet other than in fermented form, ie cheese, yogurt or lactofree or goat's cream (and some regular cream at Starbucks a few times).

I'm doing OK with Splenda as a sweetener (others tend to cause me problems). I did have IBS preDS so my diet was Atkinsesque anyway (although breaded chicken used to be OK) so it's not been a huge change for me and there's plenty I can eat. Today I had crispy duck for example, I have had pancakes with the duck post DS, but today I just decided to skip them and didn't miss them at all.

When are you going to have your surgery?

I'm just now choosing between December 4, 5 or 11th. This is soooo exciting! I am planning on taking off 6-8 weeks so that I can try to figure out what works for me in terms of food.

Giving up carbs was hard when I had the sleeve two years ago and there is no doubt that they have slipped back into my diet... with a vengence! Although, I've worked very hard at maintaining my loss... with excercise and mindful eating.

Have you started back to the gym since your surgery?

DSfacts.com states here that the DS resolves 99% of type 2 diabetes cases http://www.dsfacts.com/Comparison-of-DS-and-RNY.html

I've also read elsewhere that there's a significant improvement in the remaining 1%.

My bathroom issues improved by the time I was 6 weeks out. I think being on the full Vitalady program helped (I started at 4 weeks out).

DSers do seem to spend a lot of time on the toilet though (me included), as I've read a few threads about what people do with the time. I take 20 minutes normally and during that time I wash my face, take my nasal spray, put my earrings in and brush my teeth (I have a little bowl I spit into and a bottle of water) so the time's not really wasted.

I got to keep my sleeved tummy but the they added an intestinal bypass/rerouting.  The small intestines are separated into 2 parts.  The first part is where the food travels.  The second is where the digestive juices travel down to where the 2 new portions of the intestines meet called the common channel.  Only 20% of fats consumed are absorbed, 60% of proteins, 60% of complex carbs, but 100% of simple carbs.

I had lost 189 from my highest but I gained back 117 back.
