Protein Powder w/ milk as an ingredient
Disclaimer: I know our surgeons are all knowing, all seeing, omnificent beings not to be questioned, but….
Going in for a revision to DS soon and was instructed to give up my favorite protein powder because milk is an ingredient. Is this common?
I generally kick it old school with my Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack. My surgeon vetoed due to the change in formulation which now includes milk as an ingredient.

But as to the surgeons being all knowing all seeing etc etc. .................You're wrong. Question everything, specially about vitamins and nutrition. They are cutters not DS vitamin and nutritional specialists.
Good luck

Most surgeon's don't know what is what when it comes to nutrition. They are simply skilled at cutting. That's it! They have dieticians in their offices that get the DS confused with the RNY etc. If they get upset that you ask too many questions, don't worry about it. It is your life!!!
Also, it may cause excessive gas-y-ness! I cannot tolerate milk itself but have no problems with butter, sour cream, ricotta, etc. If I were to mix my shakes with milk or cream. I have tremendous gas pains.
Your tastes will change after surgery. I bought a month's supply of my favorite "pre-surgery" protein. About 1/2 through the first month, it did not agree with my body. I then had to start searching for other proteins. I scrambled! Spent a small fortune trying to find one that my body would tolerate.
I'm a fan of Unjury. It tastes great! They have an unflavored that mixes really well in drinks. It's Medical Grade ~ hence fully absorbed. They have a sample pack you can order for $20 something. Have something like this ready for after surgery.
Good luck!
There were a lot of people who had problems with Champion, and also, many people who did not. Pay attention to how far out from surgery people are. Champion may be ok farther out, but the lactose can wreck havoc early in.
I found out the hard way that straight whey was not the way for me!
After 48 hours of shakes at home, I ended up back in the hospital for IV re-hydration. My surgeon was the one who told me to switch to whey protein isolate, and even mixed with milk, problem solved.
I was L I going into surgery, so I was more so afterward. Now, milk in my shakes, as long as it's with WPI, doesn't bother me at all. I'm a little more than 3 1/2 years out.
