Need a PCP to pull DS Labs, Utah and WA

Hi All,

I love my PCP but I don't think he understands the DS, nor is he spending much time learning about it. I presented him the list of lab to run recommended by Vitalady, and he told me she's crazy and there are much irrelevant stuff to run. So he picked and chose and I think they drew four tubes of vial and I am waiting for the result. (I'll post and ask for advice once I get the result ;D)

I think it's time to find a new PCP or at least one that understands the DS when I need to talk about DS related stuff. Can anyone suggest a good PCP in Utah? I live in North Salt Lake, but I am willing to travel through the south end of SL County as well as even going to Weber County (Ogden area).

Also, I may be moving from Utah to the Great Seattle area next year (thinking about Kent and Renton), any good DS PCP in this area? Again, I am willing to travel, but I heard traffic in Seattle is a nightmare?!?! ???

BTW, I don't think my surgeon's going to run a lab anytime soon. I had my surgery on 6/27/12. Dr. Simper is my surgeon (I love him too but not as much as my PCP ...haha). He's pretty much against Vitalady's vitamin schedule; he told me whoever came up with the vits schedule must sell vitamins (which is true), BUT I also value vets opinions and I'd rather have expensive pee than having much health problems. I don't dare to show him Vitalady's recommended lab list.

Thanks and Happy Sunday!

PS I don't have access to this site at work (they locked it), but I will check once I get home!

Dang! I thought Simper was smarter than that. My surgeon pulls almost all of Vitalady's suggested labs every time. Actually, the dietitian put the scripts together but I'm guessing the surgeon had to approve them since his name is on them.  PM me if you want a copy of our lab script. I can send it via email attachment.

I would have your surgeon write a script for the labs HE wants to see.  Perhaps that will give your PCP some validation.  I do know that there is a great DS community in the Seattle area, so hopefully some will chime in for recommendations.  They may be more active on FB, though.  There is a group called OH DS Family.

seems like you have 2 choices
1. get a more cooperative PCP which might come in handy down the road if other problems arise - you don't want to be aruging with your PCP about prescriptions being instant release versus extended release if you become ill in the future.  you need a doc you can rely upon.
2. get your DS surgeon or some DS surgeon to write an order for you, or in some way approve or recommend the list of labs you should be getting.

There is another option.  There are places online where you pick a service provider and order the labs yourself.  And you also get the results.

THAT is good to know.  Thanks PattyL.  Will try searching for those now.

My surgeon has a standard list of tests. I take a copy of that request and go to Quest and get my labs done. I then direct Quest to send copies to both my PCP and my surgeon.

Done.

There is no need to find a new PCP over this issue when you can do it yourself and not worry about it.

I just want to thank everyone who contributed to this topic. I am going to search for the online thing as well as checking with my insurance company on whether if I must have a doctor order the lab for them to cover. I am pretty sure last time our rep was here said whatever ordered by the doc would be covered, but of course, my doc didn't order everything I wanted him to pull.

They also called me today about my labs. My Vit. D is a bit low, but everything else is good. I am waiting for a copy of the result so I can check if my labs are low in the range or high in the range.

I love this community and THANK YOU SO MUCH for always being so helpful!!
