Got the D/S on Wednesday. Got home today 11 AM any advice.
Congrats on having the surgery! I am starting my journey on Tuesday. I go to my first seminar with a surgeon. I am scared, nervous, excited. Not sure if this is all normal. Do you have any advice for how you survived the hospital stay, or waking up from surgery? People say the hospital is the worst part. Trying to drink as well. Just trying to get a feel for my next steps.

It's pretty neat to see everyone at their different stages. I've already met the surgeon, decided on the procedure and completed psych, bloodwork, nut, and extended cardio workups. The surgeon has the blood reports, nut reports and cardio, psych should be on his dest Tuesday and then everything will be submitted to ins (already pre-approved) for final approval and then I get to set the date. If it doesn't happen this year I'm going to be disapointed.
good luck everyone.

Rest, rest, rest... This is the healing time for your body. Drink your water - I agree with the previous poster. Different brands of water taste different and feel different going down. Protein, get in your protein!
Walk, even if it's just around your house... Try to walk every hour - think a bit of movement at a time.
FYI - Still at 2.5 months out, I struggle with different brands of water. They didn't do anything to my esophagous. I have no clue why it makes such a difference... I can feel everything in my esophagous. Some brands feel like a knife is going down my throat. Finding one that works is hard!

I agree with everyone else, try different brands of water. Also temps. I found warm/hot liquids a lot easier to get down at first. Also, stuff that was sweet was REALLY sickeningly sweet, so Crystal Light, popsicles, jello and things like that were a BIG no-no for me. I would put lemon, lime or cucumber in water and let it sit to change the acidity and/or flavor a bit, which made it easier to get it down. I also pretty much lived on peppermint or ginger tea- really soothed the nausea for me and helped me get in a lot of fluids.

Irish, 1/2 crystal light lemonaide and 1/2 water worked for me. room temp. To get 64 oz of water in per day I would set out set out four 16oz bottles of water each morning and when they were gone I knew I had met my quota. Then I gradually increased it. Just do really little sips but make it every few minutes.
Congrats on your surgery!

I am having the same problem! I had my surgery on 10/18 and I got home Yesterday. Its been so hard getting the water in. I have been taking my vitamins tho. I found that warming my water makes it eaier. I warm even my bottled water. Ive been drinking broth but sweet stuff is out of the question. I havent been able to keep the potein shakes down because I got the isopure chocolate and its sweet so my tummy doesnt like it. I just dont want to be back in the hospital for dehydration or something worse.
